if your puter keeps crashing -- then you might not beable to get a clean install of windows since it might crash during the install ---

if you think there is files left behind from the crack you installed -- then try and find them and geet rid of them ----

maybe restart you computer into safe mod with internet access enabled -- this might not solve the problem at this time but it might help it stay up longer --

nono, i can just reformat my HD, then install it totally clean, no risks.
safe mode wont work if windows restore didnt.

i just ment safe mode so you might be able to talk online longer before it tried to freeze again

While I do advocate reinstalling Winblose every 6 months, there are a couple less invasive ways to address your problems:

1) As stated before - look for a new BIOS
2) Check to make sure you have the latest video driver
3) Check the Control panel to make sure there are no IRQ conflicts
4) boot into safe mode and run scandisk again - often Windows won't fix problems on a filesystem while the machine is running.

I would also recommend making a Ghost backup (Norton Ghost) of your newly re-installed system. This way you can restore everything (including installed apps, emails) in no time if anything goes wrong. Much faster than re-installing everything over again.

cant- school uses winxp. all my apps are winxp.

i would, but my crutial apps are winxp
like dreamweaver, etc.

IIRC dreamweaver runs fine on WINE (the Windows 'emulator' for Linux)
