Are these intakes crap?

That ebay dual intake is utter crap.... my silly little nephew got one for his car.... damned thing was just a PVC pipe with two outlets.... wasn't even the correct size... missing couplers, etc

Also .... be leery of manufacturers that use the word "Type" or the Letter "R" as an initial in any part of its name.

Just get the standard ebay CAI and a good filter. It's a piece of metal piping. All intakes are just pieces of metal piping, so why pay 2x as much or more for the same thing just because it says "Injen" or "weapon R" on the side?

true, but i havent seen an ebay intake with quality silicone couplers and elbow connector... and for the person that doesnt want to build an intake with random parts, than paying for a full intake kit like Injen is a good buy

I got a polished ebay SRI with a K&N. The couplers are perfect, and it has served well for over 2.5 years. If installed correctly, the rubbing of the master cylinder will not be an issue.

hey man, if you got the cash now, i'd say go for it and take him up on the offer...

no reason to wait for my broke ass....haha

I worked for a company that sells stuff on ebay 1 yr ago. I just know s*** about them. You may think the stuff is good from the pic, but when you receive it, you'll cry, and keep saying cuss words. I hate how they did to customers, so I quited! Also the feedback is even worse than the company that I worked for. I'll take it only if I can pick the stuff up, and check it in person.

I agree the one listed in this thread looks rediculous and is prolly junk. I got a different intake, and love it.

Not to hijack this thread to my interests, BUT...

What are y'all's thoughts on these intakes? These seem to be the big players on eBay when it comes to intakes. I'd love to get an Injen or AEM, but I'm a tuner on a budget. Also, how much and where can I get the items I need to replace the blue couplers and hoses with yellow rather than blue, which seems to be the popular color on eBay.

Makoto Auto Trends

Pro Car Parts w/ K&N Filter

Bomz Racing

X3 Racing w/ EXS Filter

I'm a noob on this forum, and I gotta say that this place is a goldmine of help. Thank you!

I have yellow couplers, PM sent. I got ebay block/suckage here at work, so I will check when I get home. Bomz and X3 Racing have been around since I got mine years ago. I would do a search for their screen name on the forum, as I think I remember seeing posts about them in tha past, like reviews. Of course, the ebay feedback on both is pretty sad iirc.

I went and check them out. Makotoautotrends looks like the better deal. Never trust the pics of the couplers in the ads. My ad had red couplers, but was shipped yellow, and the guy never responded to my requests for yellow.

The procarparts has the K$N, but the price hike is stupid high, and you can get the K&N cheaper at an auto parts place, and put ir on the the Makotoautotrends.

Bescarpart's Bomz intake is missing a rubber grommet where the air temp sensor goes. Compare their intake with the Makotoautotrends. You will see it missing, and it might not actually come with it.

X3racing, I would not get because they lie in their ad about the intake being billet aluminum. It is not billet.

If you go with the Makotoautotrends, read their infor for how to order, as they want phone numbers and stuff.

Good luck, and let me know if you need the couplers.

Thanks for your help on this, Raider.

Ok, so Mako looks good, but it doesn't come w/ a K&N filter. It looks to be washable, so would that be acceptable, or would I still need to get a better filter? If so, then I'm looking at about $80 all together. My auto parts stores are showing K&N filters to be about $40 or so.

So, if I'm going to pay $80, why not get the HP Racing Cyclone CAI? Horsepowerfreaks.com has it for $71.82 before shipping. Then I'm looking at a CAI rather than SRI for the same price, and it's from a company rather than eBay. Thoughts? Oh, the decisions.

Well, the filter on the mako one was not that bad looking, might even be a Ractive. i think the Bomz ones were the ones that rusted out. mako seemed to have a better presentation and no BS. The one with the K&N might be a good buy then. I have seen name brand intakes, and they do not look like anything special compared to the ebay ones. Spending $ on a name.

You can always get the Mako one and see how it goes. There have been K&Ns on the forum, as well as ebay every now and then, just need to look for them.

I agree that paying for a name brand isn't worth it if I can get one for a lot less that does the same job. My reason for being interested in the HP Racing intake is that it's cold air intake rather than a short ram intake. Will that give me any better performance that I should be concerned about?

Best-case scenario is that I get the $40 Mako, and it's all I need. Worst-case is that I get it and need to replace the filter with a K&N, which puts me at $80 or so. The HP Racing is $72 before shipping, so I'd get a cold air intake, better than a short ram, for about the same. <scratches head> Anyone have some thoughts or experiences?

Man, I hope I don't think this much for all of my upgrades.

in general, a CAI is going to give you more sound pleasure than performance pleasure. The CAI is going to be sucking in colder air than an SRI, which is good, but probably not very noticable to most people.

CAI and SRI give pretty much the same power. The only fun thing about the CAI, is the threat of possibly hydrolocking your car if you get a ot of water in the intake somehow, either by heavy rain, deep puddle, etc.
