Probably one of the stupidest threads, but I can't really tell if they are or how long they are. Just want to make sure im doing this right. So fish people, lend a hand.
I can see the grey/black in them, where I guess that's the babies. But it's my new tank and just want to make sure im doing good and the fry don't get eaten. the molly is in her own birthing box right now, too soon?

Yes they are. And I say this just to answer your thread that 17 people looked at and decided not to answer.

They are pregnant...

I miss not having a tank full of fish. So relaxing!!! All I have now is a beta fish. He is really boring.

Excuse my ignorance .. but how in the hell can you even tell that they're pregnant in those pics? LOL, I know next to nothing about fish, but just the fact that you guys can tell from those blurry-ish shots (no offense!) is kinda amazing.

if you look at the first picture you notice the black area on the lower part is blck ,that is the babies , it isnt as noticeable on the platty but it is there . plus the abdomen is enlarged on both fish

very excited! i wish my fishes can have baby! Too bad my fishes are gay =p

thanks. well the platy is still in the box and her mate is still swimming next to it keeping her company. but i found the guppy from the first pic... but was taken by suprise since I was going to buy a second box for her so she could have babies in it, and I woke up saying WTF waking up my girl. the black is gone from her, like she gave babies... i started searching all over the tank... no babies. i'll post pics in a sec

ok, so I just found her again, the right one, and its not the one I was thinking about. It still has the "gravid" spot, i believe its called. Is it too soon to keep them in their breeder boxes?

I would keep them isolated in the breeding box...You never know when they'll pop...I've had my African Ciclids mate 3 or 4 times, and it's really cool, but stressful on the fish..and I've never had any fry, the female ends up spitting them due to stress.

Ciclids actually carry the eggs and fry in their mouths...So they don't eat and get really weak..I just got a breeder box, so maybe next time I can get some fishies...

yea, that's pretty cool. my friend has a 40 gal with some convict chichlids. he came up to me the other day before the break and asked if i wanted to get some for my tank. of course i said no, since mine is only a 20gal and its a community tank. but he said there was close to 100 fry in the bottom of his tank. that's just crazy

Congratulations your going to have from fry!

I got some African chiclids! they are a blast and fun to watch...here are a few shots of my tank and fishies...55gallon

damn thats cool. wish i could have that. in the dorms im only alowed to have a 10gallon but actually am hiding a 20g behind a sheet in my closet. my fish hate getting pictures taken

I'd put her i nthe breeding box right away. I actually found a fry (alive) in my filter, he was chillin out so I put him in the tank, but I guess he got eaten...

I had to move my two tinfoil barbs to my 10gal by themselves cause they killed 4 of my other fish (even bigger ones!)

Dirty fish sluts!

This is why I keep all my fish in condoms.

Those tinfoil barbs are going to get 10 - 12" long! Either get a bigger tank for them, or when they outgrow that one, bring them to a store for adoption...

LEXi73 - You have a pretty nice selection of fish there! The frontosa's cool, but if it's a female, it's only going to get about 5-6" long. :( Fortunately, you can't really tell at that size, so you might just luck out and have a male. The Lamp Calvus is one of my favorites though. Odd ball, but really a great looking fish! Overall, nice selection!

To the OP, the guppy looked pretty pregnant in that picture, so probably gave birth and got eaten by the other fish in the tank. Hope is not lost though, as sometimes the babies will hide in the plants or in the gravel. The first few days, they can't swim very well and hang near the bottom (why they sometimes wind up in the filter!). Check and see, you might have some stragglers.

Sorry, aquariums are my first love. In my past life, I managed quite a few aquarium shops and have amassed ton of knowledge that is now effectively useless in normal life...

Ya i know they are hard to sex...i am guessing its a female because its shy...and i believe the females are quite shy...I am fine with a female although a male would obviously be awesome. The "Lamp Calvus" are actually compressiceps. I have a pair of them and i also find them very interesting...just how they swim around together and act is quite intriguing. My favorite is the Tropheus moorii, He is very cool. I Hope that once i move out of my apt i will have a larger (75 - 100 gallon) fresh water tank or a 100+ saltwater tank thats in the wall viewable from both sides.

do you have any fish currently?

So that's a compressiceps? I have to say, that's one of the nicer comp's that I've seen. Usually the color is more mute than on the calvus. Yours is very dark though; sweet.

Yah, I have a little 29 gallon reef set-up for my son now. Nothing crazy; a pair of nigrippes clowns, anemones and a mix of hard/soft corals. It's honestly too much money for me to maintain something big right now. Thank god I'm more into the car right at the moment! :D

sorry for the threadjack ;)
