are H rated Tires Dangerous?

I got H rated tires from a tire store. 4 all season tires for $718 including balance and alignment. I didn't know they were H rated i told the guy 150 mph rated. I could still get Y rated tires just pay the difference($120). What should i do? H=130mph Y=150mph W=160mph

Those ratings have a huge safty factor I would not worry too much about it.

The tire rating is not based on brief forays past a speed, but on extended high speed performance under Autobahn-like conditions.

To establish the speed rating, a tire must be able to survive under load at a specified speed for at least 10 minutes.

If you autocross or open track, there could be issue with the tire's ability to shed heat. If you're just a commuter that occasionally likes a high speed blast, there's absolutely nothing to worry about.

+1 that there shouldn't be problems, unless you're planning on going really fast winter conditions be damned.

I'd guesstimate that in cold wintery conditions the tires would be working cooler, in which you'd have an extra margin for speed, if you find enough grip.

Yeah, safety at speed is not an issue at all here. My main concern would be with the grip factor in dry & wet conditions. Lots of the tires that auto manufacturers use as stock equipment are tires I wouldn't put on my lawnmower.

I'll be changing out my Poortenza's as soon as I burn the tread off them. (Only got the MS3 2 weeks ago) I was tempted to go get lightweight wheels & sticky tires right away, but figured I should at least wear the rubber off the OEM tires first.

DOT wants to ban the use of H-rated tires because of how dangerous they are. It's true, I saw it on the teevee box.

Man, that would suck for all those U,T,S,R,Q,P,N, and M-rated tires! Lots of fresh asphalt...

H rated tires are dangerous as your only source for nutrition. I bet a handful of Flintstones would fix that.
