Are exterior mods a sin?

Hey all,

Newbie from Hawaii here. First of all, I am currently stationed on Oahu, Hawaii. I know there is at least one other Orange Speed running around out here, curious if its owner or any other Oahu residents are posting on here.

Now for the real question. I have the desire to do some external mods to my car. (As if the Spicy Orange doesn't make it unique enough.) Don't worry, nothing tacky and nothing permanent. I want your opinions if doing something like that is just plain wrong or is my desire to stand out normal.

Just for the record I am thinking of the Wing's West Evo hood and the rear fascia from their kit. Plus the graphite Konig Holes (18 inchers of course) wrapped in BF Goodrich KDW's.

Well let me know, I start cringing at the potential onslaught of boos and howls. lol.

The hood is definitly a functional part; You'll be ditching a good chunk of weight, AND shedding some underhood heat, which attributes to heat sock, a nasty problem with MSP's.

The wheels are a bit big for me, and I always suggest trying to reduce unsprung weight by using lighter, more normal sized wheels. =) But I won't rag on someone just 'cause they have a different set of rims on the car... Well, unless they're 22" chromies. ;) That's just asking for it, though. Hee!

Welcome to our happy little corner of the net!

CF hoods seem to be a common desire here. However the WW one is a seriosly back ordered peice. One member earlier tonight mentioned having it oredered over 3 months ago and nothing yet.

I would honestly put this in the appearance section or ask a mod to mov it for you as a few more people with the same mods will see it. P5 has the same front end as does the MP3.

welcome to the board. whao another hawaii person, solid. um the other orange speed hardly comes on, to my knowledge at least. i say, do wut ever your liking to your car... but dude, youre going to pay A LOT. shipping here is a b**** if u didnt know.. i paid about 1 grand just for my autoexe lip and grill. just those two tiny pieces. shipping for rims was about $250 +. but welcome and hope to see u on the road! peace - chris

Yea I'm from hawaii also. My friend and I both own speed proteges. Mine's yellow and his is black.

Welcome to our happy little corner of the net.

yeah happy to be here, just finished reading your hack and slash of smolten. Well back On topic, I personally believe a car should be left alone as much as possible. A whole team of designers took months to figure it out. Changing the car would be like "tagging" on a work of art. unless of course the mods had a legitamate reason to be there. Such as say a manual boast controller to keep the turbo alive longer and things like that. Oh well that's my oppinion.

Miques, Another way to look at it is this. . . If you buy an expensive masterpiece you have to decide how to frame it, and where to hang it. Exterior mods are essentially how a car owner takes the Masterpiece that was built by mazda and framing it and displaying it!

I thought getting parts in Canada was expensive ,you guys and gals in Hawaii are in a league of your own when it comes to getting parts shipped in . Its know wonder that people make their own kits and parts .

vodapas77 - if you want to be truely unique as well as do some weight reduction, you may want one of our Orange CF/Kevlar hoods for your MSP :)

18"ers on an MSP is a sin the rest no. I would say one of the best appearance mods I ever did was the JIC coilovers. You can get them at any height(even rallying if desired) and will make those rims that are on your car look better. I adjusted my coilovers to a 1 cm gap on all four corners. With the 17" 5 spokes barely tucking in it really looks trick.

Savaho has one of the cleanest cars here and yes they are 18's but I would forgive you if you did get some kick as RH's like this in 18"
and here is mine on the same day
not a great angle but what the hell

18's on a protege look tite (thumb) especially some 18" volk TE37 (check out mazdaformance's car (see chojin on this board)). i'm not quite sure how 18's would look on an msp but i think it'd still look good. volk must come out with 18" and 17" versions of their sf-challenge wheels :D

as for the hood....i'm not a fan of the evo hood. i'll leave it at that.

In about a month's time, I'll be getting a CF hood, WW front bumper & side skirts. I'll post pics of all of that on my spicy orange MSP once done.

i have a spicy orange msp

and i dont give a crap if its a sin or not

I have spool springs, 18" gunmetal rims (racnig hart S7), and a WW Evo hood which I waited probably 4 months for and believe I was the first to get.

I also have a autoexe replica grill, CF DGM lip and WW rear widnow spoiler that are currently getting painted.

After this weekend I hope to have some pics of the gunmetal 18s with the WW hood......and in the mean time, if you look aronud, you can find some pics I posted in the appearance section or the photo section, or my car with spool springs, stock wheels, and the hood

hope that helps :)

oh yea, and BTW

I love the spicy orange so much that I was sure I was going to paint the hood when I got it, knowing the gold fleck would look amazing on the lines of the EVO hood.

But I got it, put it on, and will not be painting it. It looks gorgeous IMO. I love the way it compliments the orange, especially with the dark wheels. I thought that only the "tuner crowd" appreciated a CF hood and that everyone else thought it looked like a ghetto, too poor to have it painted black hood. But I think everyone who has seen my car has saifd they like the way the CF looks on the orange. Even my grandmother and some other people who werent so hot on my car to begin with....

i have the ww c/f evo hood on my speed and everyone that sees it loves it. It helps keep the engine bay cooler and less heat soak means better boost. As for the 18s, to each his own. It only depends on if you are going to race the car or not. I want to find a set of 5 zigen 15s for my speed. Slamming the speed would look awesome.

not a sin i say!!!!!! get what u want, esp. hearing some of these ideas, your car would look awesome as some of these prob do.
