Hello!

Some of my friends are installing aftermarket turbos in their MX-5/Miatas. Problem is the government approval., Norwegian Public Roads Administration, need approval from Mazda, which Mazda Norway dont have.
Any suggestions?? Thanks
by the way sorry for the poor english..

never pop your hood open in public?

seriously, do you have visual inspections? if not, then just dont tell or show anyone who may narc on you or your friends.

and your English is better than many other people on this forum (thumb)

hmm... then I would assume your only hope is to learn how to uninstall-reinstall pretty quickly before and after inspection. lol

I dont know anything about your automotive laws... maybe there is a way around it...

maybe just paying off the inspector guy?

corruption exists all over the world, true...but these guys at Public Roads Administration, lemme just say one word, serious..

trust me norge is a small enough place that im sure the inspector went to school with or is someone's buddy.get him paid off!!! otherwise it will be a REALL big pain in the ass to swap everything for the yearly inspection.
and i have said it before din prata english mycket bra. lol

well also point out that mazda now offers a factory turbo setup so its not like its not something mazda is doing themselves. its just that you dont feel like buying a WHOLE new car when all you want is just the turbo.

yes, i know, the Mazdaspeed MX-5, but only for American, Australian and Japanese markets...how do you do it over there regarding installing aftermarket turbos, you buy, install and dont tell..

yea basically .... for my state (maryland) all i have to do is pass emissions every 3 years or something no inspection under the hood

LOL....fiskeboller....mmmmm...

If i go to my local Mazda dealer and tell them i want the MSMX-5, they say that that car is not approved by EU regulations..whats up with that?

that sounds like a first. the EU countries having a car that doesnt meet their standards but itll pass a DOT wierd.... bring some goat cheese please i cant find any good stuff here

So apparently they are knowledgable enough to know that it is not standard equipment. The only way I could really see this working is installing and removing every 2 years. What do people do who have rebuilt vehicles? You must have cars that have motor swaps done over there. Is there a way to "re-certify" the vehicle?

maybe, i'll check it out..thanks

I'm in the same boat as you, Norwegian guy. Every two years, cars in California need to be smogged, and part of that process is visual inspection. That's why I got a Z-Engineering supercharger.
Installation took about 3 hours in my backyard with hand tools...no tapping the oilpan, no wiring; just a pulley, a bracket and a chip for the ECU. The only thing I couldn't do myself was chip the ECU, which I probably could've done but I'm afraid of my soldering skills(or lack thereof). heh, I figure that three hours every two years isn't too much of a hassle to be keeping up with S2000's! I'll just take it off on smog day. ;)
I haven't dyno'd my car yet, but I'm sure it's pushing at least as much power as the turbo kit you linked.
Check out Miata.net and keep lurking. I'm sure a Z-SC will pop up sooner or later.
Good luck!
