APEXI SAFC on a P5

I was curious if anyone had one on their P5? I will be getting mine installed tuesday or thursday and dynotuned possibly the same day. I will definitely let you know what my stock dyno run is and then after tuning. Stay tuned..............

Hmmm it seems that it might not work because of the whole ECU full throttle thing? Well I will let everyone know how it goes. I guess I will be the lab rat.

GRRRR DO NOT GET AN APEXI S-AFC FoR YOUR PROTEGE, LISTEN TO YOUR FELLOW FORUM MEMBERS! AFTER GETTING IT PARTIALLY INSTALLED I FIND OUT THAT THE VOLTAGE THE MAF AIR SENSOR PUTS OUT IS ABOVE WHAT THE AFC MAPS SO IT WILL NOT WORK. DAMNIT DAMNIT

(guns) S-AFC (gun)
(bang) (upbum)
(sad1) (notcool) (rant)

Damnit I am an idiot

OK so all hope is not lost I think the information on the MAF sensor wire to tap into was wrong. Anyone have any recent pinouts of the P5 ecu?? Or does anyone know if we use the same or similar MAF as a Miata? Can someone anyone contribute something? Flying MIATA sells something that will allow me to tune the S-AFC at full throttle. I just need to figure out some things. Oh for pics of it go here http://groups.msn.com/MINDGAME/shoebox.msnw

I know it's on here somewhere, I'll try to find it for you... Good lucky, let us know if you get lucky.

I had the S-AFC "installed" in my P5 along with my Rev-Speed Meter. I was never able to get the S-AFC to work (heck I couldn't even keep the engine running until tap the AF ratio wire instead of running it through the S-AFC). I don't yet know the MAF sensor voltage thing until I get my hands on one of those wiring diagram. I'm thinking about trying it again once I have my cams/intake manifold/cam gear in....

Sorry not really helping you here but my experience so far tells me either I have the wrong diagram (which I've found here) or the S-AFC just not compatiable with it....

Yes I think the diagram I got here was wrong......well the only wrong one seems to be the MAF pinout. A guy at mu local dyno shop suggested that the wire that is tapped into is wrong because with the key on and when doing a sensor check with the S-AFC, there is a voltage reading of ~5.5. Now the guy said that the correct wire would not have a voltage this high with the key turned on. So there can only be 2 more possible wires I think. They will be looking at my car soon to determine the problem.

ProtegePoe if you get the right wire number PLEASE REMEMBER THE PIN OUT # AND SHARE IT WITH US (OR MORE IMPORTANT, ME!) PLEEEAAASSSSEEEE........ :D

Thanks in advice..

ProtegePoe I got a copy of the ECU diagram maybe this might be of help... If the wire in question is the Mass air flow sensor wire it shows here that it's wire no.88

OK I will say this again and again the S-AFC WILL NOT WORK ON A PROTEGE the S-AFC only read 0-5V or 5-0V MAF voltages period the protege is 5-10V so stop trying it DOESN"T WORK!!!!!!!!!!! SEARCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I did, I was there when that thread came up back then, chill man, where did you get the information about the MAF voltages readings? I started it back up only because I also heard others saying APEXi indeed have a fuel map programmed in their S-AFC for Protege (which I don't really believe but who know if you don't find out yourself first hand?)

you posted a question on a forum for people to help you adn i gave you a straight answer this topic has been discussed several several SEVERAL times.......sorry if i seem pesimistic but quite frankly now I dont' understand why people mod these cars yeah they look good but they are a designed grocery getting and will always be a grocery getting I have realized this and put mine back to stock to use it for what it was made to be a grocery getter.

That's okay, unlike you this is the only car I have so I can either mod this or get something else which I can't really do that right now... But anyway ignoring my rud comment before I apologize.

I guess different people have different goals, yours seems to be much higher than mine. My original idea with this P5 is to milding build up the engine to 180-hp NA with cams, cam gears, higher compression pistons and stuff and may port it if I can afford it too if I'm not going turbo. I read your fairwell thread and sounds you wanted way more, the reason I brought this up again is only because now someone is saying it can be done so I'm trying to explore the idea onces more.

again, I apologize for my comment.

its all good man yeah the protege just doesn't do it for me.......the mirage runs high 12's with only 2500 into it with the cost of the car......over 200whp and gobs and gobs of wheel burnin torque...that reminds me order LSD....lol.....Just going with the factory turboed cars and make some real power cheaper.
