Your post is a little hard to decipher, lol.
The 55watt HID kit is the brightest you can buy at the moment. Its rated for 'off-road' use but I know quite a few people have installed them without any issues. The 35watt kit is the standard kit (I have a 35watt kit) most people buy. Its still quite a huge improvement over the standard halogen lights our cars come with.
I don't understand what the 'little square metal things' are that you're referring to. Do you mean the ballasts? Those are required because HID lights need extra juice to fire the initial spark. After that the require less power than Halogens. As far as 'plug and play' goes, I have an Apexcone system and it required very little wiring knowledge to hook up the lights. It was very very easy.
