I'm the editor of a small literary journal at my school, and we've run into a big issue. We have Quark 7.1 on our Macs, but the printing company only has version 6. Is there a way to save the file so that an older version can open it? How?

Prompt help is appreciated.

Open your Quark file and then from the top menu, Click "File" and scroll down to "Save As".

A new window will appear with the directory of where you want to save it and filename, blah blah.

Look down at the bottom, there is a version drop-down box where you should be able to select a lower version. I have version 6.5 and I can save it down to 6.0 or 5.0 using this method.

Hope that helps you.

There was no option for that. Ugh. All I could do was type in the filename, choose its location, and then hit save or cancel.

Oh, btw...maybe it's different between Mac and PC versions. We have the Mac version, so maybe you have to go about it in different ways, assuming you have the PC version, or that they changed the way it all works in 7.

Find another printing company. (dunno)

Ahh if only we had time to do that! haha.

I think I may have figured out the problem, though. Maybe. At least I hope so. :) (I'm thinking about the fact that we used two computers and one of them--the last one we used--may have had a higher version of Quark. Last year, we used the first computer and had no problems with the same printing company. We will see.)

Don't know what to tell you peach. I'm on a MAC too and have no problems saving down.

Glad to hear it. :)

I work for a printing company and I know we have issues with files being saved differently and / or we can't open them. It's a pain for both sides. LOL!

If you're running Mac OS X (vs. Classic), and if the printing company won't be making any edits, just save it as a PDF and call it a day.

If they can't view PDFs either, find another printer.
