Anyone who has drivin' a MSP and a Spec V, report here!

my bf has a 03 spec v and he is dying to get rid of it. it is slowly falling apart on him. i used to have an 01 se and it was better quality then his 03 spec. as far as speed wise, they are about the same in the end, but getting there is what is different. my MSP feels faster than his Spec b.c of how the turbo works and how it helps in acceleration. The MSP is definantly more spacious on the inside and you can actually fit people in the back, unlike any b15 platform sentra. And personally I don't like the way sentra's look, yeah I had one for over 2 years ,but I made it look as best I could with custom stuff. I can't stand the way they look stock.

He's selling the spec for an 04 Subaru 2.5 TS wagon anyways so I don't have to worry about bumping the boost lol :)

i test drove both and here is why i honestly chose the msp
the spec v felt the same as far as acceleration, and i loved the exterior looks of a spec v. but inside the mazdaspeed is so much more bad ass. the spec v felt like just a normal car

I have driven both.
I think the stock straight-line performance is equal.
I liked the Spec V's sunroof, brakes, side air bags and 6 speed.
I didn't like the dash, the stereo, the pass through (small) or the overall exterior look.
I bought the MSP and it was a good $3000 more than the Spec V, and I probably could have haggled more on the Nissan than the Mazda.
IMHO, the MSP looks way better, has a better interior, wheels, stereo.

another thing to think about, spec's resale value is as bad if not worse than the MSP b.c they can't sell the new ones so they are pratically giving them away.

Since I've driven both...
Even though I hate my car...it's still better than the msp for one reason. My car doesn't try and beat the living s*** out of you on every bump and pebble on the road. The spec definitely has more down low power but the msp quickly makes up for it as the revs go up. Not really a fan of either transmission but the mazda one is light years better than the nissan's. I have the typical won't go into reverse or third issues lol. The spec has an awful stereo that was a huge option on my car, the back seat is useless, and it has the built in mexico build quality.

I got offered nearly 14k as a trade in for mine :p
no one wants the new facelifted one though

I have driven both and I remember how let down I was after all of the hype for the Spec V. The gearing is terrible when you consider that the 6 speed only takes two shifts to get to 60+mph when the 5 speed in the Mazda takes the same amount. If they would only shorten the gears like in STi, the car would be a lot faster. Secondly, owning Nissans in the past, they seem to loosen up and wear down quickly. I really hated the torque steer and have not felt anything close to it in my MSP. Finally, Nissan took an aggressive looking car and turned it into an ugly economy car. This is the first time that a car manufacturer has went 10 years back in styling.

i compared both cars directly when i was shoppin... the spec was alot cheaper than the msp a year ago so it was a tradeoff but now with the msp goin for as much as a spec its a no brainer. the msp has far better quality and is made from much better parts, sure it has its quirks but so does the spec. its made in japan unlike mexico for the spec so u decide

turboge, a member on here, sold his spec-v for an msp. then he sold the msp for an evo. guess that's the proper way of moving upwards. he told me the spec-v overheated at the track. no bueno. the msp has never done so.

Weird my spec never overheated on the track, my subaru did all the time. I know amy's msp has awful heat soak issues, she has a hard time keeping up with dump trucks after driving her car for a while :p

Im with discreet on this one I had some kids come beside me the other night and the passenger klept wanting us to race. So he gave the thumbs up put it in second see Ya Cant wait to get down pipe and up the boost . Then me and discreet will race hahahahahahhaha

Yeah guys, this is a hard decision, lol. I guess what im tryin to say is, if the MSP can get up and go like a Spec V, ill be sold on the Mazdaspeed.

I owned a 2003 spec v for 3 months before a tree fell on it. Then I bought an MSP. I drove 12,000 miles in my spec v and have driven 23,000 in my MSP. Here are my impressions.

Spec v:
Better seats
More umph off the line, felt like you were taking off.
6 speed transmission

MSP:
Better looking (the 2004 spec v's look like ass imho, the stupid nissan symbol stuck to the front end is huge)
Easier to mod (turbo gives you more options)
Waaaaay better handling (the spec v isnt even in the same class in this area)
Stereo 450 watt amp standard

The final factor in my mind is cost. Take the money would would have spent on the spec v and put it in the MSP and you will definatly have a better car.

ok yeah that is true, but any car will be slower after driving pretty much 5 hours stright going 80+ on the highway lol

lol ok ,you are always complaining about your car beating you up on the roads of Pitt. So thats not entirely true. But you do like my car better, infact you are the reason I bought it. B.c you wanted one.

if thats what ur really wanting to know... thread is over. msp with $150 in mods will own ALMOST any spec v out there with the standard HIE mods. threads closed. welcome to the board d00d
