i've read the turbo magazine article on the MSP many times. they mentioned in one of the captions that the car was aided by the P5 radiator when installing the iON FMIC. anyone else do this ?

I think I have read of people doing it. It is a direct swap so there wouldn't be a problem...the only thing I can think of is the inlet coolant hose not reaching, but I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem.

Sorry this is totally of the subject.

03MSP - I see in your sig that you had an 88 MX6 lx. I had a 90 and they never turbocharged the lx version, only the gt version. Did you do an engine swap with a gt, or just turbo the lx motor?

Sorry for the off topic post but I was curious.

I didn't get a chance to read the article; Why would it be beneficial to use a P5 radiator? Aren't they the same ones we have in the MSP?

The MSP radiator is smaller than the P5 radiator because we have the stock intercooler attached to it.

yeah....the p5 radiator runs across the whole front of the engine bay where the stock IC would be

why spend the money when full-alluminum radiators that don't have silly plastic endcaps that leak, for a little bit more exist?

i swaped when i added the msp turbo....so i still have the p5 one!! once i get my intercooler i will be putting the p5 one back in!;) later, mike

Oh, that makes sense. Has anyone thought about keeping the stock radiator after adding a FMIC and putting an oil cooler in the old IC's place?

Just to let you know...

the MSP already has an oil cooler and tranny cooler :D

isn't the oil cooler water cooled though? he means a good oil cooler, i.e. air cooled

Here is an example of the good kind of aftermarket radiator:

AWR Radiators

I believe there are a couple members with these radiators and I will be adding one before it gets hot around here.

Peace...(hippy)

Yea a larger radiator is a must once you get a fmic for the msp. kill the heat for the intake charge and motor!

I have an AWR Radiator which i installed back beginning of August . Awesome fit and finish. Next week i'll post pics.........

With regards to our oil cooler. Yes, it is Water cooled.

So increasing the surface area of our radiator we can in turn lower water temps which will lower oil temps.

AWR also offers a Rad core which is for the Protege and leaves room for an oil cooler.

OEM cooler will work fine until your boosting 15 psi plus ALL THE TIME. GT25 won't start cooking oil until then. Run a good synthetic oil and don't worry.

Are you sure about the tranny cooler? I really don't think the MTX has a cooler. If it does, can you point out where the lines are at and where they go to? Not flaming you, just never noticed one way or the other while I've been under the car.

I put the complete turbo setup on my LX from a junked GT. Man that was fun for about 2 months until I blew the motor:D

when my car was in the shop I've asked them to swap the P5 radiator with the one in my MSP. they end up telling me there is no way that is a direct swap. They told me that it simply didn't fit in (all the brackets, drill holes etc) are not fit.

so I gave up and stick with the stock radiator. I would be sooooo pissed if the P5 is a direct swap w/o any mod. SINCE NOW I KNOW WHOEVER ORDER THE P5 RADIATOR FOR ME..... THE PARTS MANAGER SCREW UP!!!!!! what the F&^*$%!!!

I might just sell the intercooler and the stock rad to get a new AF rad.....
