Anyone used the Metra Kit for installing an aftermarket radio/

Anyone install an aftermarket radio with the new Metra dash kit? I have a friend who asked me to do it but I'm not really all that familiar with ripping apart the dash on the 3. Did a search and couldn't find anything.

i dont know what the metra kit is but pulling out the HU is very easy on the 3. It takes < 5 mins to pull it out.

just do a search for pullin out the hu... you need to remove the c/f look alike thing first and thats the only difficult part, just pull away from the glove box (with it open) towards the drivers side... its not to bad once you know what you are doing...

Carbon fiber insert thing first, open your glove box, pull with some force but evenly and gentle like and get the clips to pop, work towards the driver side, as the passanger side has a hook that slides in so you cant just pull it out. after that its 2 screws and another firm but even pull and the whole thing comes out. (i cant remember if the display had screws or not.

I have the metra kit, look wise Id say its pretty bland. Lot of black plastic around the HU. The little pocket above the HU is neat for my cell phone, thats all its really good for. No gaps or fitment issues, just kind of boring.

I used the kit for a double din setup, then changed it to a single....Here's the double din pic. I don't have a single pic..

haha yeah I was tapping into the remote wire last night and when I had the dash apart I looked, it is the metra.

Anyone know of different dash kits other than the metra or schoche one's? Both are real blan and take away from the whole dash. I've seen the top mount kit which goes above air vents.. real nice for a thief...

I've seen single din mounted in place of the ash tray (some modification required of course).

I'm posotive it was something that Lockdown was offering, But I can't seem to find the thread.

I'm sure it was somewhere on this forum, posted by Jeff from lockdown. There were even pics too!

try searching, maybe you will have better luck than me!
