Anyone think the MS3 looks stupid?

just a note to you guys about the ms6 and the 5 door... when the ms6 came out there was a big article about why they didn't use the other platforms especially the 5 door and even the wagon (for europe not us) and the answer was structual integrity. the 5 door just couldn't get braced enough with out adding way more weight then they wanted ontop of the awd. and they didn't do the wagon b/c they didn't think there would be enough sales world wide to support that platform...

just a fyi...

just to add onto what tsunami said... as far as structual rigidity is concerned, they already had to auto-x brace the back of the MS6 to get the rigidity they needed. If you noticed, you cant put the seats down in the back because of this. If it was done to the 5-door or wagon, all of the versatility the cars once had would be gone anyway....so there was no point.

ON TOPIC: if they said the MS3 was coming out in a sedan, I would have been the first inline to get one.... Thats just my opinion. I dont like the MS3 exterior stylings in the hatch (and I kinda like the mazda3 hatch after driving one). I think the sedan would look amazing if they redid the styling correctly (one thing I dont think they did for the MS3). HOWEVER thats just my opinion and I dont expect everyone to agree with me. To each their own.

When I think "station wagon," a picture of my parent's 1966 Ford Country Squire jumps into my head. It was green with the fake wood paneling on the sides. I don't see the MS3 as a station wagon, I see it as a sporty, practical 5-door hatch, which is something those euros have enjoyed for years, but for some reason Americans have shied away from when a manufacturer has brought one to us.

The new mazda bumpers with the big ugly black plastic strip is really a turn off, thats including the CX7.
+1
To me that strip makes them resemble a new VW/Audi a little too much.
It's been one of my complaints about the appearence of this car since the first pics. Fortunately, they didn't do that to the regular 3's.

Unfortunately they did it to the 2007 hatch but not the sedan. Why? i have no clue. Oh well get a sedan bumper for your hatch i guess.

I wish there was a 3 door hatch option. The 5dr just isn't sports car like. I'm kinda tired of having 4drs. I never use the rear ones. Heres to hoping the Kabura goes into production.

Or, you could simply have that strip painted to body color.
From 04-06 the bumpers were not interchangeable. I don't know if that's changed for 07 or not.
I saw an 07 hatch here last Saturday and while I only caught two quick glimpes of it, it did appear to have that strip but IN body color... bright red in this case.

For me, the jury is still out on the controversial strip. Maybe the ugliness of it will help conceal the ugliness of the front plate/mounting bracket. I don't know what the finish is, but maybe it will help hide high-speed bug-splatter, too.

I love the MS3 in every way except the fact that its four door hatchback. Having a sedan option would be so much better. I feel like I would be driving my moms old camry station wagon.

However, the power and interior styling are very nice.

Any thoughts?

No

Saying the Mazdaspeed3 is ugly or a "station wagon" will soon become just as tired as saying the Miata is for girls or "queers".

Wait, it became tired about 2 weeks ago.

Im glad it's in the format it is. I already have a 2 door sporty car with 400 or so HP, I need something with a lot more utility and decent performace to keep a smile on my face. I have a ZX3 for a daily driver now and could definately use the extra two doors, not to mention the extra 130+ hp in the same hatchback format. If I wanted a 4 door I'd just have gotten a WRX or MS6. Hatches just fit my lifestyle so much better. Hats off to them for making this. Now to hope it's reliable.

I love hatchesm and I'm glad that the MS3 is coming out in hatch configuration. My problem is that I've just never thought the Mazda 3 hatch looked good in the first place. Too bulbous, too something. Don't get me wrong it's not ugly and is a great great car for the money. But looks wise, I'd take my P5 over it in a heartbeat. I'm sure I won't care if I'm behind the wheel on an MS3, but when I walk to the car as I'm leaving work or heading our to the blue ridge parkway, I want to look at it and enter with a smile on my face. With the MS3, I'd look at it and wince a little, then get behind the wheel and smile.

I don't think it looks stupid persay...I think it looks cute, like you wanna go out and pet it, or something and say "awwww cutey wittle car"....definately a b**** ride if I ever saw one.
