Anyone put mud/splash guard?

I put a set on my 6 because I live on a 3/4 mile gravel drive. I think they may stick out 1 1/2".
They look nice and aren't very noticable, but they aren't very functional either. Mazda should have made them a bit bigger, but all the aftermarket options I've saw look too big.
