Anyone know about Mazdaspeed parts for the MS3? - article quote...

From an online reviewer that drove the cars at Laguna Seca....

Anyone know anything about these parts he refers to?

They brought one custom MAZDASPEED3 to the track, outfitted with the same goods you can buy today for your street car. Cold air intake, cat-back exhaust, coilover suspension, and lightweight aluminum wheels with 245/45 tires. On the dyno, MAZDASPEEDs factory-certified full-warranty accessories gave this car another 35 horsepower and 30 foot-pounds of torque. And they let us drive it.

With the performance accessory kit, the car will outrun just about anything except a sheriffs radio. Theres no getting around the fact that this kit makes the new 3 a full-on race car with acceleration and handling to blow the gold chains and toupee off any Corvette driver you can find. The coilovers make cornering and transition flatter than Kansas. And the part that still has Mazdas bean counters crying in their Fresca is that MAZDASPEED Accessories is only charging about $2,000 for the full kit. Keep your leftover parts people with a plain-jane Mazda3 are sure to want them.

So lets recap if you buy the Grand Touring edition MAZDASPEED3 and have the dealer install the aftermarket kit before you drive off the lot, your bill comes in right around $26,000. Youre holding the keys to a car with 298 horsepower, 310 foot-pounds of torque, 155 MPH top speed, handling like a World Challenge car, and a completely virginal factory warranty. This car and its aftermarket kit are available today at the nearest Mazda dealer in your choice of colors. Any questions?

This sounds really cool. You get performance mods that are under full warranty. I just want to know if there is a reason why its only available for the grand touring package besides that they want you to pay for the higher end grand touring in order to get the performance package.

They are mazdaspeed accessories offered by mazda, the cat-back and cai are supposedly going to retail for around $900.00 together. They have not been released yet, but should be available soon.

ive seen pictures of the lightweight wheels and the coil over system, look like nice pieces, but I garuntee that they will be more than slightly expensive... I think it took a few months for ms6 accessories to start coming out, so i would expect something by dec/jan

I dont think its only limited to the GT, I think the writer is using it as an example, stating that for 26K, you can have a fully loaded car with 300 horses. For 2K, the package is very cheap. A set of Tein coilovers will be around 2K.

300hp, 310lb/ft of torque.. wow... but i doubt it has "acceleration and handling to blow the gold chains and toupee off any Corvette driver you can find" lol...

It'll have a hard time putting 300hp to the front wheels, maybe the aftermarket should custom fit the AWD system to the Mazdaspeed 3!! I dont think its too hard. And I think Cobb has the resources to tune it.

edit: Mazda 3 has an AWD option in Japan. The engine should be capable of 400hp easy.. slap an AWD system on it and it'll be faster than STi/EVO. Someone make this their project car!!

They should offer a Mazdaspeed 3 AWD package!

I looked on mazdausa.com

I looked on www.mazdausa.com under the MAZDASPEED parts pages. I found nothing MS3 specific, but they had several parts for the regular 3. I would bet there will be parts to come.

Is is even possible to convert a fwd to awd? I thought it wasnt possible.

anything is possible with willpower and money :D

"convert", no. more like changeover. you would need the transmission and transfer case as well as rear axles, rear differential, mounting hardware, rear suspension, exhaust system, etc. the body is already setup to take the parts i would say, just as the protege sedan and protege5 bodies could accept the japanese AWD parts. to get those parts over here and installed, lets not forget electronics to manage them, you're not looking at chump change thats for sure. i would say if you have 10 to 15k to burn, that would be a good budget all things considered.
