anyone have the lightweight flywheel?

i have the 9lb flywheel and it does not feel any different on the street and when you get on it is freekin awsome(it can allow you to powershift faster because there is less stress on the gears from the momentum of the flywheel weight when you re-engage the clutch)

^^that's cuz it's really light.
agreed! I dont think the jspec should affect driveability its not much lighter then stock and since im gonna have to replace my clutch soon anyways I might as well replace them both at the same time. But im not sure if I will notice anything from a few lbs.

I have a Spec lightened flywheel/stage 3 on the MSP now.. The "adapt your driving habits" thing sounds intimidating but the difference wasn't that drastic. The car did move up the rpms quite easier, but after it was installed, a few engine issues came up so I never really romped on it hard enough to be able to justify the differences.

The tranny, as a whole, did feel quite solid... But that's with a KB SS, KB shifter bushings, CS bronze bushings, Royal Purple tranny fluid, Spec stage 3 hybrid clutch, Spec lightened flywheel, and another unmentionable mod.

I'd say get one.

i have the fidanza 7.5, great mod!
my buddy george who had one had the indiglo one and i must say at 9-10psi it gave it some pep.

We have installed several Lightened FW's and it's not like people say. The Protege does not act different when driving. What is different it that you loose rotating mass off the crank and the motor goes through the power band faster and smoother.
IMO it's a very good mod.
65racecoupe dyno's 110whp on a stock P5.The only mods it had was Spec stage 3 clutch and Spec Aluminum FW. It still had the stock air box and exhaust. So does it free up power, Yes.

Would a lightened flyhweel make any existing idling problems worse? I'm guessing the rpms would drop faster and it would die easier, but then maybe it is easier to bring the rpms back up so I don't know.

What? You can't base gains on that, not every car from the factory makes the same amount of power. If you don't have both before and after numbers you don't know if there was in increase...

Yes and Yes. It will drop faster (and may die if it goes too low), but it will also come back up easier. I would fix your idling problems before modding anything else.

ive never had one in my speed but for the $ I would think the money could be better spent elsewhere to get more noticable gains(EMS, turboback,FMIC etc.), especially if it makes traction a bigger problem.(from what i understand higher 60s, but more MPH even with a good driver)
