anyone else here into 80s cars?

STEALTH, well i may be making an assumption cause I am kinda partial but if you were talking about my M3 then thanks. I missss it sooooo much. It actually was the best handling car I have ever driven on track or off, and I have driven ferraris and porsches alike. BMW really nailed the design when they came up with that one. Watch BMW RACING on SPEED with that funny british guy and they show how the E30 dominated all races in the late 80's.

And again may be partial but I like the early 80's late 70's VW's . My first car was a 81 Scirroco S. and my old roommate had a 80 GTI rabbit that could smoke old GTOs and Camaros. Like the V8 boys from the 60's none of these new plastic ones. Ran a 13. something in the 1/4 all motor. and handled like it was on rails.

older celicas. -=) drifter mobiles.. vroooooom vrooooooom slide..
a friend of mine had one.. and we used to take that thing into parking lots late at night our out by warehouses and just get sideways in it.. the thing was a tank too.. i seen to remember him gettin in about 4 accidents (only 1 with me in it, slide in the rain hit a big green electical box) and the only thing that was ever wrong was one headlight wouldnt pop up.. i actually think it was called a celica supra at the time? anyone seen one?

This what you're talking about? My neighbor used to have one.

the drift mobile.. his was silver with that dumb shade thing on the back (the metal vent things) and a stereo that when u turned the volume up.. it said.. volume up.. volume up... it was bad ass. -=)
LoL

damn fizzle you just described my dads old car. except it was silver with black on the bottom. Once my borther got ahold of it it only lasted 6months before he totaled it when it was snowing

The celicas were cool, but the Rollas were the best. ONly the AE86 had a perfect 50/50 weight ratio. This is the drift king. Its the cool thing to do.

i've always loved this car.

1982 datsun 280zx with a turbo and t-top roof...i actually wanted this befor ei got my mp5.

The 1987 Grand National GNX. Fastest built GM car until the 1991 GMC Syclone. Now that's one mean SOB. Rates at a modest 280hp AWD w/ air to liquid intercooler. I would take ethier of those but I've always wanted the Syclone. I love the boxy look and the AWD but I can't get over the nasty 80's looking interior.

LoL.. a friend of mine has that same 280.. same color an everything with a vette motor in it.. that is a zoom zoom car -=)

ARRRGGGGGHHHH we've been thread jacked by toyota lubers. My mom had 2. It's what I learned to drive stick in. and then she had an automatic that I got to take out all the time when I was 16. They we're a blast in the rain or in gravel or mud...don't ask. The 5spd was a 85SR5 that she bought brand new. Funny thing is she looked at an 85 Trans am and A firebird with T tops. she has always been cool like that with cars. Hell she loves it everytime I do a mod to my car. She always wants to drive it. BTW She loved my old M3 and even my Corrado.Hell she loves driving my lighting. And gee it was a black one too. imagine that. The other one was an 86 sr5 auto with every option you could get. I liked the 5 spd more but my stepdad totaled it. And it was going to be my first car. I was going to buy it from my mom for $1200 bucks. Not what it was worth but Everydamn dime I ade when I was 15. So instead I bought my 81 Scirroco S. Which my mom actually used to buy me stuff for. I mean she researched and found Autotech back then and bought me things like a short shifter and s*** know and pedals and stuff for me for Christmas. Although she was'nt too happy when I came home with my cats gutted and a suppertrap and header on it. GOD was it loud. Actually got pulled over the first day I had it like that. So I had to put a damn stock cat back on dammit. it sounded wicked.

Damn - forgot about those older VW Corrados - now that was a sweet car. Especially the little spoiler that raised automatically at speed, a-la Porsche, kinda.

I still see one once in a while - I have seen some VERY nice examples recently, too - well kept, nice rims/tires, no rice, just vrooom. Nice cars, for sure - I'd love to own a Corrado.

What kind of engines/power did they have? Rear or Front-drive? I don't know much about 'em, other than looks. If I remember correctly, they were pretty powerful and light - meaning quite fast and tossable. Yes?

You have no clue what you just started.

The Corrado is a 2 door Sports Coupe built by VW between 1988 and 1995 (Available in the US from '90 to '94 and in Canada from '90 to '95). VW offered two engines for the Corrado in the North American market: 1) a 1.8L, 158hp, 4 Cyl. Supercharged 8V engine offered from 1990 to 1992 (Called the G60) and 2) a 2.8L, 178hp, 6 Cyl. V (Called the VR6. US versions were called SLC models). The Corrado is based on the A2 chassis and it is the fastest VW built to date.

The European market was lucky to get the 2.9l 190hp VR6. Other European engine options were a 2.0l 8v 115hp 4cyl and a 2.0l 16v 136hp 4cyl (there were some early 16V's with catalytic converters from 1990/1991 that had 129Bhp).

Very nice, I considered buying one of those a while back when I was looking at the early 90's Audi Coupe Quattros but both of those cars don't belong in a 80's thread. They aren't 'boxy' enough.

I'm an absolute nut about 80's/early 90's japanese sport cars, especially the RWD drift machines that seemed to be non-existent in today's market. These are a few of my fav. cars that I grew up with:

85-87 Toyota Corolla (AE86) hatchback
Now made famous by a certain Japanese cartoon. 2100 lbs., twin-cam engine (back then that was something special!). Solid rear axle is a bit unsophisticated by today's standards.

84-85 Toyota Celica GTS hatchback
Used the rear independent suspension from the Celica Supra (later just named the Supra after 1986). 2.4L engine. My g/f's neighbour bought his new in 1984, and still uses it as a daily driver, with nary a problem other than regular maintenance!

82-86 Toyota Celica Supra
2.8L inline-6 provided the grunt. Want a few million pictures? http://www.angelfire.com/me2/suprapage/mk2.html

89-94 Nissan 240SX
Nice interior, classy exterior, swap in a SR20det and have some real fun! The original 2.4L 4 isn't bad, but runs out of breath in the upper registers. Still a bit expensive to buy as a strip-it-down project car.

86-88 Nissan 200SX hatchback (can you tell I like hatchbacks?)
The most overlooked drift machine! I really wanted one of these, especially the 200SX SE which used the 3.0L 160 HP engine from the 300ZX, the independent rear suspension, and the rear disc brakes. This example is really nice. If the damn things weren't so hard to find, I might be climbing in one now!

84-85 RX-7 GSL
Stronger 1.3L motor, nicer interior, rear disk brakes. Nice car all around.

86-92 RX-7
Got a special spot in my heart for these, my first car was a 1986 RX-7 GXL with every option. Bought it used for $4500 with 155k kms on the clock. Ran like a top... sometimes. As a 17 year old kid with a minimum wage job, I couldn't afford the gas/maintenance it needed, so I sold it a year later for $3700 and 170k on the clock. I didn't appreciate it enough at the time, should have held onto it. Bought a 91 MX-6 automatic (yuck) to replace it.

One day when I have the space to work on a car, I will buy one of these machines, and thoroughly relish tearing it down, and building it back up (with updates, of course!)

I love 80's cars. I drive one. Cars from that decade just look so much tougher. They had unique style, not like the rounded off cars today where everything looks the same. Used to have an '87 Supra turbo. God that car could corner and I loved how it looked.
