i think i might be crazy but i love 80s and early 90s cars (mainly euro, like bimmers and audis) i love the look of a cuztomized boxy car with a body kit and some nice wheels....dream car, E30 M3 pref, 90-91

I'm more into the older muscle cars.. not so much mustangs as corvettes and trans-ams. I LOVE the '71 stingray and will own one someday. The American cars kinda got ugly in the 80's but bimmers and other german cars kicked ass... still do..

I've been drooling over those 1st gen. M3s since they came out. I still like 'em more than the new ones, all flared out like that.

If that's your dream car, why don't you have one? They aren't that expensive now. They are like $12,000 to $20,000 depending on the mileage. BUt as for 80's cars, I hate them. The harsh standards from insurance companies and environment preotction were still taking their tolls. Now the technology has come far enough that those things don't matter anymore.

80's German cars are not so cheap when you have to repair them...;) The price of parts alone...unless you have money to burn.

Exactly. That's why I'll just keep drooling...
My buddy had a 325is back in 1990, and that was one of the best cornering cars I've ever been in. Hold on, Let me re-phrase that; one of the easiest car to drive fast that I've ever been in. Neutral, fast and predictable, sorta like a Protege!

1981 Trans Am Pace car, 1989 20th anniversary Turbo Trans Am. I don't really care for much else from that decade. I had a 75 Trans AM and a Honda for a daily driver then.

Now for the 70's, give me a 1970 GTO Judge convertible with a RA III and a 4 speed (only 13 were built). I would settle for a nice 78 TA 4 speed also. Perhaps a '70 Mach 1 or Boss 302 Mutang would be pretty nice too. If I only had a bigger wallet.

I love the 80's Beamers as well....Those M-3's are tight!

But yeah, the costs of repairs sucks when they get that old. If they weren't cared for all their life....then they are money pits. If they were well taken care of, then they are beautiful!

Heres my other ride:

I was never into 80's cars, I think ben pretty much summed up why. I was always, and still am to a degree, more into the british cars of the 60's and VW's. Nothing like a good ol TR3 or MGB, long as you don't hit water or bad weather. Best out of the bunch though is the Jag. XKE V12 with the 4spd. Only american cars I've ever really liked were the 65 stang fastback w/ 289 and a top loader. I can appreciate them, just would rather be able to turn a corner rather than go 120 in a straight line.

The 80's euros were nice, but I also like some of the american muscle as well. Cheaper to maintain, but hard to come by in good condition. (aka, most of them are either rust buckets or strictly not for sale)

Super Clean '88 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe. Its too bad people didn't like the idea of a 4-banger in the TBird. Everyone had to have a V8.

Well guess you streak is over Ben cause I am not going to agree with you on this one... lol. Antoine hit the nail on the head. Trust me I had a 1988 E30 M3 and I absolutely loved that car. But that thing about put me in the poor house because of repairs. Sold it cause it needed a new trans and entire new exhaust. Took it to Korman a BMW tuner here in NC and they checked it out and said it needed about $8000 worth of work. Just the transmission was $3k and the exhaust was $2k from header back. Stock parts would have actually cost me more than that. God was it the best handling car though and the looks....mmmmm gets me hard just thinking about it. I had a salomon silver on black leather with full evo body kit on it. NO NOT Mitsu Evo but the EVOLUTION M3 from europe. Basically adjustable front and rear spoilers. And the system in that car was incredible. Not stock by any means. all custom. The previous owner put all A/D/S components and amps in it and had a sub custom molded into the back of the back seat. Man did I have so many more plans for it. I will own another one one day but not till I can afford to do everything I want to it and keep it in full running order.

BTW just an example of a repair. Spark plug change. Parts:4 plugs @$25 each and $258 for new wires(BMP) Labor: From dealer they said it would be $135. I told them hell no and decided totry it myself. Well guess what you can't. You have to have a STUPID special "M" thin wall deep spark plug specific socket. I looked all over town for one and at everything from craftsman and matco and snapon. no this is a special M tool. Well called BMW and they said just the socket was $80. Well I said screw it and just had the dealer do it. but hey they completely detailed my car for me. That is definately one thing I miss is the service of BMW. New car or not you were treated with respect and got a full detail with every service. oh if any of you want to see my old car check and many other sweet European cars check out the guys website. www.evosport.com BTW it's no little operation either. Check out the Ferrari Modena and the custom trailer and truck. I sold my car to a BMW freak who wanted a track car, Guy named Simon Atik. then as I was sitting on the thrown about 2 years later reading European car I read a article about this new company called EVOSPort and it shows a couple of their cars. Well mine wasn't in there but I about freaked when they said who owned Evosport. Oh well cool story to tell the kids and you guys. He actually flew out here and drove it all the way back to cali. Le t me know what you guys think. You can definately tell when it was my car versus his car. went from daily driver to track star. Oh the life. These guys have got the same taste in cars as I do and the do them right.

I used to have a '79 Camaro. 4 speed. Only a 305 V8, but still fun to drive. Silver exterior, black interior, and T-tops. I put in new carpet, full Kenwood system with 6-disc changer in the glover box and a JBL tube in the trunk.

Also re-did all the exterior chrome work, had a Grant steering wheel, custom dual exhaust with the cast oval tips from a '97 Pontiac Bonneville (looked sweet!), and the car had T-tops. Gotta love the older design tops - NO leaks. My '84 Z-28 had horrendous water troubles with the t-tops.

And the license plate on my '79 - "HIHOSLVA" ;).

As for '80s cars - blah. As in any time, there were some great cars. But many manufacturers (mostly the domestics) were all about horrible fake wood trim and digital gauges. Ugh. I'd skip the 80's altogether and take cars from the 60's and especially the early 70s as my faves - plus the late 90s and today's cars. Just MHO.

nah..not anymore. I just used to have one, and miss that car terribly. It was a cool ride, and super cool for the 80's.

Those Corollas are cool, don't get me wrong. Front engine, RWD...:D
But I used to smoke those things in my Starion.(smoke)

well, minus all the super exotics of the 80's (lambo countach, ferrari testarossa, porsche 959, porsche 911 RUF twin turbo) i'm going to have to go with american pushrod here and say that in the 1980's, my "realistic" dream car was a buick grand national. my dad almost bought one. in the 90's, it was the mazda rx-7 (the third gens), and when the protege5 came out in 2001, it was my unicorn. then after graduation, i got myself a nice midnight blue mica p5. so i'm happy. but i would be just as happy with any of those italian imports, german imports, or even the GN. i am rethinking my liking for the rx-7 though. too many problems with the rotary. in that case... give me a twin turbo supra instead. i'll be just as happy.

My friend just bought a 98 Buick Regal...he loves the super 6.

Personally I think its a granddaddy car. If it had 2 doors instead of 4, a stock spoiler, and 5 on the floor, then I'd say it was sweet.
