Anyone else experience this creaking windshield??

Hey members,

For some STRANGE reason my windshield has developed some sort of "flex" creak, the sound seems to come out when the chassis flexs and its cold, it sounds like a wooden rocking chair creak if you know what I'm talking about and it doesn't do it all the time, just the last few days its starting to get progressively more freqent and it's freaking annoying the shyt out of me, and it's not coming from the dash its actually from between the windshield and the top of the dash, VERY strange. ANYONE else?

Pretty common I think. I'm experience the same thing... and it just started happening now that the temps are creeping below 40.

you're not alone. this has been discussed a lot I'm sure. my car does it pretty badly in the cold. I noticed it in the last few days since it's been below 60. one of these days I'll take it to the dealer and see if they can fix it. I hear there is a simple fix for it but I'd rather let the dealer do it.

Happens to lots and lots of 3 owners. There's a fix for it on the forum somewhere maybe someone has a sticky. I know others have just taken it in to the dealer to get fixed under warranty so that's always an option as well. My car gets it, not too bad but really only in 30 degree and under weather. Plastic sucks.

they fixed mine in march when i bought it after couple months when its cold like today it started to squeak again (deadhorse)

^^ mine was fixed in October of '07. its coming back. There's a ******* TSB for it?

Its funny when I fixed it they service dept said they've never seen it before but suggested a lot of people would probably be annoyed by it.

WOW, I really didn't know I wasn't the only one, does ANYONE have the TSB thats been mentioned...I'm not sure I understand why changing a fasteners would keep the creaking away, and what fasteners would that be? is it the ones on the outside of the cowling?

The car is going in on Friday for wheel balance problem maybe I'll have a chat with my service guy and see what's up, I'll let you guys know what they say.

what does it hurt ... its under warrantee i assume and if you can drive w/out being annoyed then wtf why not

The question here is what to do when they have your car?? I don't have a spare one to drive and they don't have loaners, have to see what they will do cuz I really would rather find out whats the actual cause of the noise so I can mod their fix so it's perminent, Since other members are stating that it comes back the next season.

just because a few heads say it came back doesn't mean that is will for you. for the past couple years, people have complained and gotten it fixed either with the several DIY fixes or i guess via the actual TSB that this was based off of- http://www.protegefaq.net/tsb/mt000005636.html

as far as what a dealer does for you when you are having your car worked on, noone can tell you except that dealer, however..this fix, once identified by service and all parts are ordered, about 10 minutes to complete.

i think its just thicker foam tape that they apply which will eventually wear if it is in tight contact b/w 2 surfaces. There is another thread on here which I was searching for again but yet to find where someone had a different solution. Either way good luck and if it annoys you just get it fixed so you can get back to enjoying your car!

ppl have gotten the creaking noise from the radio trim piece.

mine started last week -- definitely coming from windshield area. glad to see i'm not the only one.

Since the weather has started to cool, I definitely hear what I believe is cowl shudder. Funny, because when it was warm, the cowl didn't shudder but the stereo trim piece rattled. Now the trim piece doesn't rattle.

Looks like I will have to have my dealer take a look at it Friday. Sigh all kinds of stupid small issues with mazda it seems.

I found i never knew their was a rattle until it got cool out for the fall/winter and started driving around with the windows up... looks like its happening again.
