and whats your opinions on the motor build ? looks pretty good to me

this is the same engine Kooldino runs and has been running for years now. we feel it is the best quality built motor available for this car today - in terms of quality of labor, quality of parts and quality of service.

since we started offering them late last year, we've sold five of these engines and have two more in the build queue right now. beyond that we've sold the internals used in these engines to many more customers who have been very pleased thus far.

let myself or Kooldino know if we can answer any questions about them for you.

is there anything else you guys do to the motor aside from install the pistons and rods ken? what kind of bearings do you guys use? Do you offer any solutions for the stock oil pan as a package with the built motor?

we offer two options for the block - a brand new one from japan or a low mileage used one that is inspected and cleaned/refurbished as needed. with a brand new block from mazda, it has a factory fresh and accurate bore and hone and new crankshaft. if requested we will do a .020 over bore on the engine. we use stock bearings and gaskets for a variety of reasons explained and debated time and again. Kooldino has run this exact setup for years at boost levels well over 20psi, driven hard, and a partial tear down showed that the bearings were immaculate.

what sort of oil pan solutions are you looking for?

thats great to hear stock bearings are lasting at those HP levels. I was referring to the starvation issue from the oil pan not having baffles and having trouble picking up oil during extreme corning with high rpm. Pretty sure thats what toasted my old motor.

Sounds like you guys are doing things right with these built motors.

we will add in an AWR oil pan for a little more. much superior upgrade to the stock pan.

well there you go ralphi, get the built bottom end with the awr pan and you are ready for some serious fun.

gotta blow this motor up first adam :( how else will forum members know the true limits of the stock fs motor. If you get one ill install it, we are just gonna need some serious amounts of beer, its too cold out to do this sober.

EDIT-you might wanna get a shipping quote first adam, might be better off getting the forged goodies from ken and then we just install it. if youforged the motor you sure as hell dont wanna sell back that fmic buddy

lol yeah...

i'll talk with u on msn about this :P

Correct me if I'm wrong, but someone told me that the over bores with these motors doesn't really do all that much. I was interested in doing an over bore with mine but............i want to know if some ductile sleeves can be thrown in the mix too! I know that i WILL hit 400 with this car and am willing to do and pay what ever i need to get the block machined right. I'm about to go out to my garage as we speak to pull the head from the blown block and get that on it's way. Got head internals?

the only reason to do an over bore on these engines is if you are using a well worn block or a block that suffered oil starvation/spun bearing and resulting cylinder wall damage. there is no reason, factual or otherwise, that supports boring out this engine just because you can. there is no documented power gain. there is no evidence that says "stock bore built protege motors blow up and over bore built protege motors do not". regardless of that, you'll get people that say "over bore is the right way no matter what, because i think so." i guarantee you - if you start with a new block, from mazda, or a low mileage block with a professional hone and go with stock bore pistons - you will have better tolerances, cylinder wall to piston clearances and less piston slap among other things than if you take it to johnny racecar's machine shop to bore it out and go with an over bore piston. if people want to disagree with me i don't mind, but there isn't much in the way of evidence i have seen in my last five years experience with these cars that would convince me that over bore is gospel.

as for the sleeves question, i can't honestly say. i've never encountered an FS engine with them in place and know no one with plans to install it.

I pulled my head from the blown motor last night. Do you guys do head work? like the machining? As far as internals if you sale em' I'll buy em' I just like to put my own stuff together.
