Anybody see this review?

I test drove an HHR when they first came out and I was pleasantly surprised. Though it was an automatic, I thought it was a fun car to drive and it was in a price range that I liked.

Your right I think the Mazda is a lot more fun to drive and they do away better job designwise as far as space goes.

Yeah, I don't know much about the HHR, but all the chevys that I've driven and rode in were not too appealing to me.

I've driven a 5MT HHR, and it's nice... but the 5 puts it to shame. This is coming from a guy who grew up in a Chevy family.

chevy is more about style and as much hp as possible

I thought the HP always made up for the lack of style..hmmph
I grew up in a family who had Fords and dodge's but somehow cant stand american cars (biased). Have any of you been in one lately that wasnt on a showroom floor? Well i have. I work for AAA and do a ton of traveling and have driven just about every rental you can think of. It disturbs me to see a car with only 3000 miles on it and making creaking sounds when going over bumps or when closing a door. IMO ford is the worst, GM's second and Dodge/Chrysler a distant 3rd. I did actually like the looks of the HHR but couldnt get my head past the american car thing. I also wasnt too sure what to make of the interior, but do think that GM is putting a little more effort into its interiors in general (which is good). I just wonder what the designers at Ford and GM really do for a living... because they certainly arent designing cars thats for sure.

Rent a 5

I don't understand one comment on the bottom. I travel for business and have noticed you can rent a Mazda 5 from Hertz for at least the last 6 months. In fact, I rented one last July when I went on vacation. Another time I requested a 5 and they said they can't keep them on the lot, they are popular (Portland, OR).

Although, I'm still confused as to the effect of a car's value once they are bulk purchased for rental? Is that good since there will be more cars on the road or bad because you dilute the car by overpopulation? I guess it depends if it's a Mustang Shelby GT-H (only available for rent at Hertz and not available for sale)?

Generally, it's never good for a car's value once they're added to a rental fleet. However, considering it's just the one model and not an entire model line (ie Chevy), the 5 should be fine as long as Mazda's image stays good. Regardless the jury is still out on 5 resale value, it just doesn't have any history yet. The fact that it's mini-vanish might not help either... we'll see.
