I finally got tired of messing around with the front door positions & their uh "marginal" sound and threw some 6x9s into the cargo cover. Put them in the main well part of it. Anyway, very happy with the new sound. Yeah the image is now behind me, but that's what I'm used to anyway. I'm also bi-amping into a single 10" sub, crossed at 100 or so. Gonna try to hook up the stock 4 speakers at reduced fadable volume.
Anybody else put speakers in rear deck?

Yeah mine's pretty vanilla. Did the cutting inside. Lost my enthusiasm in the cold outside beyond getting them hooked up for now. Yeah one of these I HAD installed in the front door. Worked, but tremendous hassle, and sound was not good - like too small an "enclosure" for the 6x9 I guess. I advise don't do that...
The fiberglass(?) is plenty strong enough for the weight. The magnets don't intrude much either into the cargo area. May put on a single disconnect for when I want to pull it out to haul something big.

Yeah I used some real basic speakers I had laying around to try it. Sounds about like the rear deck setup on my old 626, which I missed every time I listened to the stock P5 positions, even with upgraded coaxials installed in them. They were just "OK". I was gonna add high tweeters but decided to just do what seemed obvious. But I still want to try running the stock positions more softly to back up the sound. I may run the back & front doors in series 4+4=8 ohms, so 2.7 ohms with the 6x9s, which my amp can do. Or maybe just use the amp in the head unit - nice since it has the fader. Or I have a few spare amps around...

I've been pondering over doing this for awhile but just wasn't sure how it would look. Looks pretty decent looks like I'm going to be picking up some 6x9's
Do you want an honest opinion? You have very nice gear in a ghetto looking installation. If you are happy with it I guess that is all that matters, but I think you would have been much happier with a nice set of components up front and not having a hacked apart rear deck. This isnt an 83 Cutlass, you don't need as many 6x9's as you can fit in it. There are two things to consider when putting in a stereo, sound and looks. Some systems focus on one or the other or both, but right now I would say you have neither.
I'm not saying I am the best at this stuff either, If I had pictures of some of my first installations, they were complete hack jobs. As long as they get better, then you are learning an thats a good thing.

True dat! The only way to learn is to fool around with different ideas.
I always oversee my buddies with wiring with sound equipment. I've learned alot from my father as he is an electronic technician so it's always great to help out using the bit of knowlege I have haha

I agree with the ghetto look!! I made a complete new rear deck out of 1/4" mdf and mounted two 6x9's and one 10" sub. I have since taken it out because the wife has to use the car now but you couldn't tell the difference. It took awhile to do but it looked much better and from the outside you couldn't see it.
