Anybody else have scratched headlights?

I was wondering... I really baby my 2 when it comes to washing it and inspect it constantly for dings and scratches which is why I'm really confused as to the amount of scratches on my headlight lenses. They look horrible like if somebody took a brillo pad to it.. I know I didn't do it while washing or drying it. I ALWAYS hand wash it.. no drive through style washes so I'm wondering if its due to aerodynamics/ dirt and debree, or sandstorm? Im wondering if anybody else has scratched headlights. I'll try and get a pic up later.

The headlights I bought from Japan were a little hazed over from oxidation, though not necessarily scratched. Still, I cleaned them up using several different grits of sandpaper followed by polishing with a compound I got in a kit (Meguiar's, I think) and a protective coating after that (some kind of car wax, I think). They probably aren't quite "good as new", but they're pretty close.
