What I'd -like- to do is integrate an XM tuner much like the Terk universal tuner (XMD-1000) and brand-specific adaptors - so that the receiver is controlled entirely from the stock head unit and everything's clean, no extra tuner screen, wires or other external accessories hanging out of the dash or center console.
Is the stock (non premimum) sound system in the M3 compatible with any of the terk adaptors? It it made by a certain audio company?
I notice that Mazda offers an insanely expensive Sirius adaptor for $400 or so after install kit is included.
Has anyone hacked the port that this plugs into and made it available to an XM receiver? Seems like Terk is the only one out there doing this sort of thing. They have discontinued their old series of adaptors for the universal tuners and are coming out with brand-specific all-in-one units that are more expensive. I just bought an old set for the aftermarket Kenwood in my Protege5 for XM, and wanted to get XM for my fiance's Mazda3 as well under the same account.
I suppose barring that, I'll have to get an Aux input adaptor and a tuner with a separate interface and try to integrate it cleanly into the car.
