Any thoughts on OEM Spare Tire Subwoofer

:
2000 Protege ES
wanting to get some extra bass without rattling the neighborhood, and have been curious about the performance of the spare tire mounted amplified subwoofer enclosure that i believe was OEM in the protege5. does anyone have any thoughts or feedback they'd like to share?

(gossip) (i can't really mount the msp amp/sub enclosure, as i plan on installing a rear strut tower bar in the future, and since i need to keep the trunk space, an infinity basslink is about the largest enclosure i'd be willing to consider.)

2001 MP3 had a 10" tube-style subwoofer in the cargo section of the trunk. from what i hear the protege5 oem spare tire sub was hardly worth having but i personally have not experienced it.

For the price you'll pay (on eBay or F/S section on a forum) it is worthless. Actually, even if you got a good price it is worthless. along with the subwoofer you need plastic parts to raise the floor (not shown in that photo above) which means the sub takes up more space than you'd think. You also need to figure out how to wire it to the existing stereo (cars that didn't come with it don't have the wiring harness).

So in short, you could get a nice 8" subwoofer and amp that will outperform the OEM sub and take up less space.
