Any surfers out there??? Im from south cali and the waves are redictulous this week...i went to Surf the Wedge in Newport today with the owner of Hawaiian Island Creations Ron Yoshida and it was HUGE. 7-10ft...first large swell of the year baby

Not a surfer yet, but it is my next addiction- been feeling that for about 10 years. I wish I had an ocean- I settle for snow for now on the board.

But when I do start, I won't be any use to anybody- I'll probably wind up sleeping in a box on the beach, which is why I haven't gone yet.

lol. I grew up around them, went to the beach with them..but I myself have never gotten on a board. The waves arent that great over here...except in a hurricane. lol

I just surfed too! The waves are also going off here in Santa Cruz. It sure is good to see some south swell!! I got like a dozen barrels today at Ano Nuevo.

(friday) ya its so sick...so check out this week that i just had.....monday Andy Irons, who just happens to be my favorites surfer, checked into the Newport Marriott(where i work valet). He and i talked for about 20 minutes and he ended up giving me a HIC hat and signing my billibong Irons jersey that i just happend to have in my car. The Hawaiian Island Creations hat wasnt a big deal cuz i get them for free. Perks of being friends with the owner. ANyways...Ron Yoshida is moving HIC to Singapore to save money on production and he called me to help him pack up all his stuff. I only worked for 4 hours and he gave me a brand new 6'7 Andy Irons Custom that andy left in his shop last week while he was visiting. WAAAAY stoked. so today we went and tested it out and he gave me 5 tshirts for going boarding with him.

you know, the main reason I started snowboarding is cause I thought it would help me learn to surf.

Well I guess I know who I gotta look up when I get out to cali- damn man, nice

Singapore?? bummer. Are they gonna start popping them out like Al Merrick did?
I get my boards for either Dick Brewer or Greg Sauritch, both hand-shaped to my specs. I wonder how much shipping for a surfboard from Singapore is?

shinzen, Come on down this summer! I can teach you how to surf! :) The surf shop that sponsers me will give us free doyles(soft surfboards) and wetsuits to use for as long as we need them.
Santa Cruz is a great vacation destination for the summer. ;)

EDIT: sorry, I didn't mean to sound sour. I just hate when shapers take the business to another country to save money through sweat-shop style labor.

Yo natey...he aint selling out...he's making clothes in Singapore...his shaping shop is still in irvine. He was just getting too big clothing wise and wants to go national so he had to open a factory that would be cheaper to mass produce. Rons one of the dopest guys known to man and he would never sell out his shaping. He actually makes 1 outta every 20 boards that are made himself.

Also, softboards are nice to learn with, janky if your any good. They r wayyyy squirly at higher speeds but are perfect for learning cuz u cant Ding them up like crazy. Surfing is definitly an activity that last a lifetime and you wont get burnt out... O ya NATEY!!! STEAMER Lane is like one of my absolute favorite places to surf. Santa cruz is on my top 5 schools list but UofHawaii is my top pick. Surfing there would b rediculous

Nate, I didn't know this! I have a friend who goes occassionally and I've always wanted to give it a shot.
How bout this, instead of giving you the struts/springs for free, I'm gonna have to charge you a couple surfing lessons. Sound like a deal?

We can talk about it more tonight.

I never thought that when I grew up I would be in a band
And travel to all the best spots in the land
I'm not here to brag or boast
I'm just here to tell you 'bout the spots that I love the most

Natural bridges on a clean west swell
Breaks over the reef like a bat out of hell
Stockton Ave. gets hollow and mean
And on a big day it works like a machine
Outside Stockton gets hot like a glove
Swift St. John's St. into Michell's Cove
Big Steamer Lane makes you wish you were a trout
When it's mackin' so hard only two dudes Paddle Out

A huge Summertime South swell hit when I'm in my hometown
In a surfside bowl is where I can be found
Or up and down the coast
Checkin' the spots that I love the most

GAWD I miss Florida and Sebastian Inlet

I surf. Natey can't surf his way out of a paper bag. This summer bud, i'm going to come knocking on your door and we'll have to go rock out.

ya i cant wait to move to Oahu....itll b sick actually surfing nice waves instead of tressles and huntington all the time

i went surfing for my first time at surfer's paradise on the gold coast. it was awesome, i can see how people become surf bums easily. hopefully i can find some surfing this summer near home but it's not going to be nearly as good as anywhere i've been. then we went to bondi a few weekends ago where other people were surfing, it was pretty sweet seeing them but i'd kill myself on those waves. we just went body surfing on them instead :) bell's beach had some nasty waves when we stopped by, and they had a competition there a few weeks ago i heard but i couldnt make it down. surfing is a huge reason why i want to move to australia :)
