Any Speed3 Auto-X'ers

What are you running for rims and tires? I'd like to get started, but don't want to run my aftermarket rims and OEM tires. I'm thinking 17" something light. Would those fit though? And what about tire size? 205/40, or perhaps 225/40?

if you want to stay in ds good luck finding an aftermarket lightweight racing wheel that is 18x7.

I run the oem wheels with rt615's

not the greatest but for this season it will have to do

I don't know what class I will be running in. So far for mods, I have the OEM MS Intake, Forge DV, boost gauge, and 18x8 Rota P1's on OEM tires. The first event I'll probably do is a PCA AutoX in July. As I'm not driving a Porsche there, I'm automatically dumped into a time only class.
I don't plan on a lot of mods, but some suspension work is planned.....

Yup, if you want to be competetive your best bet for the amount of money spent in the car is to stay in Dstock. But then you would have to take all of that stuff off your car. Boo.

SM, aka "Stupid Money."

i'm almost certain the valve puts you in SM. it doesn't really matter though, b/c as a novice you're not going to be competitive in any class.

I have not seen anyone running on anything other than stock-sized wheels, but I haven't seen a lot of MS3s seriously autocrossed.

I'd rock a 17" wheel, since I think that's the smallest that will fit over the brakes--if a 16" will fit, do that--and as wide as will fit. I don't think it will matter at 17", but make sure you look at tire options before you go buying dedicated auto-x wheels and find out you've severely limited your tire options. Find a tire that fits your needs, then shop for wheels that will support that tire. In STU, you would have been on street tires, and limited to 265 width IIRC, but in SM, you can put on any tire that will fit on any wheel.

I'm sticking with D/S, so I'm still on the OEM wheels. A couple of weeks ago, I got a new set of Dunlop Direzza Z-1s (225/45/18), and they've done very well in the two events I've had since (one wet, one dry). About $50/tire cheaper than the hot Bridgestones, too.

We told you. It all depends on what class you want to run in. If you want to stay in DS then roll with the oem wheels, unless you want to shell out big bucks to get a custom set of light weights that are 18x7. But if your going to shell out crazy money for that, then you might as well go with some other class.

I run the oem wheels, flashed them up a bit by powdercoating them, and I run azenis RT615's. Bought at Vulcantire.com http://www.vulcantire.com/azenis_rt615_t.htm
225/40, smallest 18 they work and squeezed them on over the skinny rims. Thought it might be too wide and have too much flex but no sir, just fine.
