question: what has more potential to create better looking pictures, shooting in RAW or a 2 step bracket and making a HDR image? I dont have much experience with RAW and have only edited them with nikon capture editor.

I feel that RAW gives you a greater range of adjustments that can be made after the fact. For example, there is more detail in dark/light areas. But, depending on the light range of the image you are trying to create you still might need to bracket and create an HDR to get the proper lighting.

BTW, I use Lightroom to manage my photo library. I can make minor adjustments with lighting, WB, and other simple stuff like cropping directly in that program. It's also integrated very well with Photoshop so I just right-click and go to "Edit in Photoshop", it makes a copy of the image for me to edit! (2thumbs) It's the way to go when you are dealing with RAW photos.

I can tell you one thing, shooting in RAW is easier and less work.

Also, if your subject is moving, you only have 1 choice.

ive done moving HDR shots before, my camera does auto bracketing so it will take the 3 pictures with one press of the shutter. i use photomatrix pro for HDR and nikon capture editor for RAW. im still not too familiar with that so it seems like im doing something wrong because it seems easy.

three photos will take at least half a second (probably more like 1 second or even more than that depending on your shutter speed and camera model) to take unless you're shooting a 1d or a d3 series camera. If you're shooting even a slow moving subject, your photos are not going to line up unless you get very lucky. If you're not hearing 3 clicks, you're not taking 3 photos.

Agreed. Fireworks by themselves are eh, but fireworks with something else in the picture are (2thumbs).

i agree, i was watching the detroit fireworks yesterday shown from canada had the river and "skyline" with the fireworks. it looked pretty cool on tv and i didnt have to be in detroit!

just a question for you guys... if you were to shot the fireworks how would u set up ur cameras to get the best shots?
