Any photographers in here?

I got a new Micro-Nikkor 60mm lens for my birthday. Its a good lens but I really need some more time with it beofre I know if I will use it for more then just macro stuff. It seems like it might be a good portait lens; with the 1.5 crop factor it is a 90mm f/2.8 lens.

I don't have many good images yet but I will post some later this week. This was an interesting capture that I was expecting when I took the picture:

It's amazing to me the colors and detail that these things pull off.

You cant see it on here, but when you zoom in on this pic you can see the outline of her contacts in her eye. That blows me away.

doesn't mean s***....i have an almost 4.0 GPA and am on the dean's list and i cant spell hardly anything! spell check ftw!(first)

Did you use a boom arm for this one or where you in a chase vehicle?
Chase vehicle. I wish i had the money to invest in an automotive rig. maybe i'll build one. it doesn't look too complicated. trusting my $2000 worth of gear to hang on it is a different story. The chase vehicle was my friend's Camry. I wish it was a van, at least it would have a sliding door where i can lay down on the van floor and get some low shots.

How fast were you shooting the rolling pic at? The wheels aren't frozen, so I am guessing not that fast...what did you use for stabilization?
Wheels are not frozen on purpose. if it was, it would make the car look like it was standing still and you wouldn't get a blurred background. My EXIF is 1/100 at f/14, ISO 100. I turned off image stabilizer on my lens cuz excessive moment makes the gyros go all crazy. I was hanging out the window and did have some control over body movement.

I believe we were rolling about 45-50mph. Faster speeds = more background blur = the look of fast movement. We were testing with slow speeds, but couldn't get enough background blur, so we stepped it up. We did this shoot on an empty street on Thanksgiving day. I wish it was either in the early morning or late afternoon as the lighting conditions weren't optimal.

I already posted up previously, but since we're on the topic:

If you needed more background blur, couldn't you have increased the aperature (f/22 or so) to get a longer shutter speed without the image getting blown out? Or was it because of wind buffeting that you couldn't go any slower than 1/100? And again, I think they're nice pics - I'm just curious as to a solution to the situation you've described.

Cool, i know you kept the wheels blurred on purpose (as should be), was just wondering what you shot it at.

One I did...

Nice shot of the mini. For the sake of us amateurs would you care to share any specifics, ie. camera, shutter speed, aperature...?
Thanks!!

D200 w/18-200mm lens.

Shot in RAW at 130mm focal length.

Shutter speed was 1/60 sec with F/13. ISO was 100.

Brad, why don't you post here more? I am curious to know why you purchased a D200; was it for work or for fun? Its a serious camera and by all appearences you know how to use it pretty weel. You should share you knowledge with other members...everyone here is looking to learn to be a better photographer.

EDIT: My attempt at capturing motion:

Thanks a lot man. Nice z06!

Got the D200 for work. My boss wanted me to learn to do some product photography, and he picked the D200 (he likes to spend money). As a small-business perk, I get to take it with me whenever I care to use it ;) If it was my cash, I would have bought the D80.

I don't post in here too much because I don't think my pictures are that good. I have a handful that I like, but most are "ehh".

I do like these few though...

Peter, good snaps, but the leaf picture could use a little more contrast...that would help bring out that detail you captured so well.

A few images of my cats which were the only willing subjects when I first got a chance to use my new SB-600 with my new 60mm micro-nikkor lens.

Thier both cropped and resized to make them fit on screen. Viewed at full size the detail is pretty impressive. The combination of a razor sharp macro and a good flash is going to be a favorite of mine for some time to come.

wow thats impressive , ill try to get some shots of the ocean ( im from eastern canada ) at the sunset w/ the beach and all that its really nice

First image using the Micro-nikkor, SB-600 flash and my "studio" set-up. My studio consists of $6.72 worth of foam-core, poster board, black felt, and black drawing paper. Oh, and 4 small plastic clamps, a coffee table, a waste basket, and a dining room chair.

C&C welcome!
