Any Help with Tailpipe Soot?!?!

I'm very pleased with my car overall, however what bugs me to no end is the big buildup of soot on the tailpipe! I assume it is lost power and reduced mpg. I don't understand why Mazda would setup the timing so poorly to run so rich. Does anyone know of "any" way to reduce this, besides buying a XEDE? It is so friggin annoying!!!

tune the car. thats it. people with exhausts with less restriction say its worse off than before. just gotta tune it....for one youll get some sick differences in the power and such, plus youll rid the need for a chimney sweet to help you clean your exhaust.

Don't think there's really much you can do about the soot for now. Probably won't be much better until CPE EMS or Cobb AP. Mazdaspeed 3 cai should also help because it leans the car out some...but I see you have that already.

What's up with people? To hard to wipe it with a rag?

Its not so much that its hard to wipe up but its knowing that this car is running so rich and that there is a lot of room for leaning it out and getting more power out of it. Thats why the original poster said:

am i the only one thet loves when i see a stock a/f ratio in the 9s? I just think of potential. So what if your car has a black tail pipe, my car runs so rich that my bumper has soot on it. But guess what my car runs liek a bat out of hell running in the low 10s high 9s. Once you open her up, and tuen it, this thing will really wake up.

car companies run turbo cars extra rich out of the gate to save their own asses.....

imagine a perfectly tuned to factory spec MS3. Add a MS CAI and TBE and lean the s*** out of the car and blow it up. With the extra richness from the factory, a CAI and TBE actually still keep the MS3 in the "safe zone" ....

see my point now ?

i was told in another thread by a few people that even with a CAI and TBE the computer adjusts itself accordingly to basically run stock a/f ratio's thus eliminating leaning it out by mods for the most part. the only real way to lean it out is to run an EMS and change the settings your ecu gives the car. and by not only doing that but tuning the car fully, youll not only get a better running more powerful car, but youll get your cleaner exhaust. I had the Mazdaspeed CAI and CBE installed at 580 miles and up to this point
(680 miles) there is no black soot to speak of.

Our EMS has been out for several months now, but it just isn't yet on our website. It MSRPs for $640 (nana)

Just had someone in Canada tune his SPEED3 and he made 305 horsepower to the wheels, and 368lbft of torque (crazy)

Had someone else not long ago tune his SPEED3 and made over 350whp with the addition of a water/meth kit!

So for $640, you can tune your SPEED3 (drive)

Any updates on the Plug-n-play harness?

Nope, nothing worth mentioning unfortunately (yawn)

We have the ECU side of the connectors, but the wiring harness side is our current focus. We're tapping our connections at the moment, and I'm hoping to have some success here shortly. We came through with the SPEED6 connectors, so I have no reason to believe that we won't be able to supply SPEED3 connectors. It just takes time is all.

Will this eliminate the throttle closing in 1st 2nd and 3rd gear?

Unfortunately it won't, nor will any other engine management system at the moment. Our electrical engineer is currently developing our 'next generation' Standback, but we're still several months away from having anything to show for our efforts. He was testing the accelerometer portion of the hardware last night, and with good success, but that's only a fraction of what we're promising for the next generation!

Since we realize that people really want to get control of the throttle, (and asap!) once we have that particular part of our next Standback completed, we're going to package that hardware as a seperate unit that'll integrate with our current Standback. That way people will be able to control their throttle plate if they own a first-gen Standback. I imagine that we'll have this product available in the next couple months (yes)

My ms3 is a new 08 and the tail pipe was covered with black soot at only 10 miles, im sure its fine, its just a mazdaspeed thing, hahaha
