2004 mazda 3 GT GFX, manual
just wondering if anyone knows exactly what this is....it comes with the gt version in canadian markets is this an actual alarm or what?6

What do you mean by "actual" alarm? As opposed to an artificial one?

It's an anti-theft system, an engine immobilizer, a theft deterrent. There's a chip in the key. There's a blinking light in the instrument panel. There's an optional decal you can stick on your window, which comes with the owner's manual.

Oh, and the horn honks and the lights flash if there is a forced entry. But does it really matter?

if u just bought ur car i strongly recommend getting it, it very useful

i guess what my question actually should have been was...is it neccessary to buy and aftermarket alarm with this system.....salesman at the dealer didnt really know anything about it....thanks

can anyone help me out here?

First off, all Mazda3's in the US and Canada come with an engine immobilizer standard (even the base models).

On the Canadian GT-trim, there is an alarm on top of the immobilizer. This alarm will go off if a door or trunk gets opened while the alarm is set. There's no shock sensor, so if someone smashes a window the alarm will not go off. So it's a pretty simple/basic alarm system but it is an alarm system.

Hope this answers your question.

if thats the case chances are good theres no battery backup on the alarm. so it's completly worthless when it comes to protecting the contents of the car.

well at least you get a discount for the immob from the insurance company as in canada it is the only regonized theft deterant that works in the eyes of the IBC

does anyone know if there is a shock sensor available for the US 3? I was able to find one for the 6 here. Maybe that could be plugged into the 3 stock anti-theft system?

I checked my owners manual and case and glove box (per the manual) and I didn't get no sticker! I was robbed! (rant) Anyone else not get an alarm decal?

the sticker is a canadian option only..... makes the extra $10k or so worth it ;)

Can a dealer order this sticker? I know, I know, the alarm is a POS and the sticker is absolutely useless, but I just like having everthing that is supposed to come with the car. Obviously I wouldn't pay anything more than $3 for it, but I;m just curious.

Not entirely sure, but give them a ring and tell them you didn't get your sticker/decal. I'm sure someone there can find a stash somewhere. Who knows, you just might be able to get it for free since you didn't get one in the first place. Give it a try, and let us know.

I wouldn't think that your car needs an aftermarket alarm especially since the only real thing it lacks is something to make a sound when a window breaks.

Dude, if a theif breaks your window, it would only take a whole two seconds to grab what's sitting inside and run away. Now if you're worried about your stereo, get one with a faceplate or something.

This is all just my opinion but I wouldn't add anything except for a remote starter (shady)
