Anti-rust purchase

Hello, I am Donald Parsons (dfp100
3 weeks ago I purchased Mazda3 sport. I refused to buy the under-coat ant-rust coating because on a previous Mazda I purchased "Rusty Jones." and it promptly went out of business.
Is the present anti-rust any good?

I've had 2 cars with undercoating on them... one was my 1991 isuzu impulse.. it had 140+ on the clock when it died... and it survived for about 2 years of sitting after it died without showing any signs of rust. My MSP is also undercoated (I'm the 2nd owner) and shows no rusting either... personally with my experiences, I swear by it..... but obviously there are differing opinions.

Waste of money...IMO. New vehicles have pretty good rust through warranties. I live in the NE and have never had any issues with rust on all of the 6 Mazdas I've owned.

Improperly applied rustproofing can cause more harm than good by covering up the drain holes that help water drain from the body.

I'd save my money.

Just wash and wax your car and remove any corrosive stuff from your paint (bird droppings etc.) and you'll be fine.

I'm in the middle. The dealer program is a waste of money. There are other undercoating places that do a very good job and in addition to rustproofing, they provide a good level of sound deadening (which is the big plus in my mind). Modern cars are not prone to rusting through like older cars, so it is something I don't spend the money on now, but I do understand why some people still do this - even if I don't agree 100%. So. . .my opinion, always skip the dealer program and if you have money burning a hole in your pocket, go nuts, if not, you'll be fine.

Never ever for any reason get a undercoating/rust proofing. They are just not worthless, but can cause more rust by trapping moiusture/dirt underneath them. Some car makers even void your warranty is you apply an undercoating.

Almost all the car makers/designers have so improved corrosion resistance of their cars your car will be on the third engine, fourth driver's seat and second windshield by the time it shows body rust.
