Another Unichip question

What are the drawbacks to running the unichip without the ebc? I really don't need it. My car boosts at about 9.5psi (spring) very consistent, and the spike is minimal. All I want to do is get rid of the hesitation/bog that occurs when I'm at half throttle.

Thanks,
Dave

the only drawback I can think of is not utilizing the transitory spike that unichip has, its basically a controlled spike that tapers off but will give some nice mid range power.

But, I have the unichip and use the greddy ebc, so I dont think that is a big loss.

Great... I would much rather keep my setup that I have now. I haven't gotten my unit yet, but is there anything that is attached to the main unit that I need to omit? I would like to mount the ecu reset switch and the map switch (in case I want to take the spring off in the winter).

There aren't any drawbacks. You'll be running about the same boost level the tune it for. You just don't hook up the boost control module.

Gonna install it this weekend, without the ebc. Hopefully I don't **** it up. My right foot will be the boost controller incase it wants to shoot above 12psi.

i ran it without the boost controller for a little while, it ran fine. alot nicer with the boost controller though. :)

If you do install the boost controller and you have it off, wouldn't it just boost to 6 psi? If so, that might save you some gas on long drives.

You'll be fine. We use a MAF system to meter airflow not a MAP. It will compensate for any +/- in airflow (boost)

So I have another question. I read as many threads about the unichip as I could, but I'm still a little fuzzy about the maps. If I don't used the ebc, and I am boosting at 9-10psi, can I use Map A? From what I understand, Map B is for higher octane, and it adjusts the timing, right? So I really don't need it if I am mainly concerned with eliminating the hesitation?

After I installed my Unichip boost controller, i found that my boost at LOW is about 9psi.... which is actually what I want it to run at. HIGH boost is higher, probably spiking to about 15psi. Obviously I don't want to run it that high, so I just leave mine on LOW boost setting. I also use Map A only because I am running 91 octane (in CA) gas. I runs strong and is quite fast. When I get my exhaust system on, I'm going to get a custom tune to see what's up with my boost. At stock boost I was doing about 5.5psi. It may be the boost solenoid or something else... not sure.

Thanks for all your responses!

Hopefully I have time this weekend to install it! Shouldn't take that long.
