Another tire fitment question

Hey, I have a question about tire fitment. I plan on getting motegi mr7 rims in chrome. I know most of you may not like chrome, but they will only be show rims. Anyway, I drive a black 2002 protege es thats came with the stock 16's. These motegi rims are 17x7 thats fits 5x100 and 5x114.3 bolt patterns. It also has a +40mm offset. So what size tire could I get that will not rub? All your help will be very appreciated, thanks.

I'm all new to this. This is the first set of rims I will ever buy. So all this fitment issues confuse the crap out of me. Anyway, would a 205/45/17 fit with out rubbing?

So what exact size would I need? I read the link you gave me, but I'm still confused.

I don't think the +40mm offset will rub as long as you don't drop your car. I have a +42mm offset but I have 4-lug and they sit different than 5-lug. Just to be on the safe side, get +45mm offset because you will need to(if not already) drop the car so it'll look better.
Or, you can always roll the fenders.

these rims will fit the car. problem is that when/if you lower it, they will rub against your fender with a offset of +40mm. I would look for another rim if I were you with a +45mm offset or higher. This way you won't have to spend the extra money on rolling your fenders and going through tires.

I get what you are saying. But if i still wanted to go with these wheels, what tire size would i need. I really don't plan on dropping the car because the new york city streets suck. I have seen pics of this wheel on p5's so I know its possible to do.

tell me what the stock tire size is on a P5 cause I have a sedan and the wheels are different.

I have a sedan too, I'm just saying I have seen it done on a p5, and I believe we have a little more room under the fender

well, what is ideal for that rim to match up to stock diameter is 215/40/17. A 205/45/17 will have a 2.5% difference in diameter.

So, with either one of those size tires, would it rub? I know i sound like such a newb, but wheels and tires are not my thing.

as long as you don't drop the car, but you said this will be for shows only, but a car with rims that isn't dropped will look bad. best advice is to find another wheel with at least a +42mm offset. But if you must get these rims then get the 215/40/17 and don't plan on driving on them much if you get the 205/45/17(no more than like 2-3k miles a year) because the radius is different and will throw your speedo off by 0.9% and throw you odometer off too with the 205/45/17.
So in conclusion if you MUST get these rims then do not drop your car and go with the 215/40/17 and if worst comes to worst you might have to roll your rear fenders if you usually have 2 or 3 people in your back seat.

IF the 40 offset fits, it'll be thisclose to rubbing. Like vindy said, a wheel with a +45 - +48 offset will fit, no matter how low you go. (rockon)

damm, not the news i really wanted to hear. I really like these rims. Maybe i can find these in 16's and wont have this problem and maybe lower it a little. Well I'm off to work, thanks for all your help, appreciate it.

Ok, I found the motegi mr7 rims in chrome that are 16s. The offset is +42mm. So what tire size would I need? Also, these rims should fit without rubbing right?
