Another source for stubby antenna

For those of you who want easy access to a stubby antenna for our 3's, and are tired of waiting for the CX-7 part to come in off back order, you can always go over to Acura and get a mast from the new RDX. Unlike the rest of the Honda/Acura antennas, this one is actually the proper diameter at the base to fit nicely onto the stock 3 base. Found this out while doing a PDI on a new RDX and tried the mast on my 3, fit perfect. And they are only $13, mine will be in tomorrow.

I am a big believer in using OEM parts whenever possible, so this really caught my attention.

Why get a stubby when a sharkfin looks so much better IMHO....

Well, not everybody likes the look of the sharkfin, looks too small and out of proportion to me...

I agree!
I am still not sure if I want to get the sharkfin, or just the stubby.

MightyMouse, do you have a pic of your stubby?

I hate to say this on this forum, but Honda wins! I just went to their website to see if I could get a good look at the RDX stubby antenna, and I saw they are pimping the HONDA - FREEKING - JET! I wonder how long before some duuuude tries to shoehorn one of those engines in a Civic!(shocked).

So the base of the RDX antenna is narrower than the S2000 antenna? I have the S2k antenna right now but at the base it is a bit thicker than the stub thingy on my Protege5

Yes, the base of the RDX antenna is smaller than the S2K antenna, and is the exact right size for our 3's.

Sorry no pics yet, have to get my ass out of work to do it (gotta hate/love snow tire season)

Yeah and the 3 has the same thing as the Protege5.. good to hear. It'll be my 4th antenna if I buy an RDX one ahaha

What's the deal with antennas these days? The MSP came with an integrated antenna but, nowadays, all I see are these fugly whiplash ones sticking out the top of cars. Sure, the stubs are a huge improvement but they're still not better than NOTHING.

I still can't figure out why mazda spent the time and money to design a new rear window for the mazdaspeed protege. I agree though.. I love my mom and sister's nissans for having no visible antenna. Plus, the Mazda6 originally had none and then suddenly in like 05 they thought it would be a good idea??

I don't mind the look of antennas on most cars, and the roof whips are probably the least bad looking implementation. I just don't like having mine because I don't use it. FM radio has gone too far down the shitter to be worth listening to.

The fact that the MSP had an integrated antenna (something usually found on much more expensive cars) was a huge selling point for me.

FM doesn't cut out nearly as much as SAT (trees, underpasses, etc.) But it still blows... Can't remember the last time I even listened to that crap. The only reason for having an antenna (for me) is to listen to AM Sports Radio. If only WFAN would port itself over to SAT...

Also curious if the RDX antenna will fit an '07 Mazda3.

Anyone have a link to the part so I can check it out? can't seem to find it.

As for the sharkfins, how's the signal quality on them? Significantly worse than factory antenna?

I just went to a close-by Acura dealership(very nice staff there, even took the stubby of an RDX that was in the lot!!). I bought the 2007 RDX stubby antenna for $14cdn +tax. It fits a 100% and looks soooo much better. I own a 2007 Mazda3 as well.

Reception, is about the same, not much difference.

Let me know if you want a picture, I will go and take one for ya:)

Can I see a pic?

Dude, I'd like to see how it looks with a stubby. BTW, which dealership in Brampton? Did they have it on hand or special order?

Thanks!

Brampton, Acura 2000. They did not have one in stock, but the guy took it off the RDX in the lot!!! Saved me the wait...

I will post pictures tomorrow night. The batteries in my camera are dead. and my cell phone cam just sucks.

Here are some pics. I took them in the underground garage, figured that the white walls show the antenna better!!
