Another Rear Clunk thread....

Alright guys let me start off by saying...I have the rear clunk fix bracket, I teflon taped my sway bar, greased it, and replaced the end links with brand new ones.....That being said, I am still having the rear clunk. From reading other threads people have said the clunk fix bracket has not fixed everyone's problems. I have tried every other possible thing I have found to try from researching this problem. Has anyone ever came up with an actual solution to this problem?...That I have not stated I have already tried?...It is driving me insane. I don't want to take the bar off because I love the handling, but it so annoying it it becoming unbearable. Just checking to see if maybe I missed something?

Thanks,
Josh

Did you use new bushings? I used marine grease and have only heard my rear sway bar squeak a couple times in over a year. I don't have the clunk fix kit only replaced the endlinks and bushings and no clunks or squeaks.

I put Evolve's brackets on around 2005 or 2006, greased them mo thly for the first year and haven't touched them since. I drive my car every day in a very wet locale.

Haven't heard the clunk since I installed them. I have heim jointed endlinks too.

Not sure what your problem is, blown strut maybe?

i'm assuming you have gone back and double checked that all the bolts are tight? the split washers included with the kit do not work well on the oval holes of the bushing clamp. Mine backed off within a week, so I replaced the with flange nuts and used red loc tite. no problems since.

Yes I have double checked all the bolts, and I am pretty sure it is still the sway bar because when there is a load applied to the bar while turning (in either direction) there is no clunk while going over bumps...it is really getting to me.

This might be a dump question, but did you replace the endlinks with the right size? That's what happended to me when mine was clunking. The auto part store gave the wrong size.

-is there any chance you got the wrong bushings? were they really tight? did you use marine grease? did you pre-grease?

-maybe tighter the the endlink nuts even more?

-remove the swaybar entirely and see if its still there? (warning, car will feel really weird without the sway bar)

I found one end link bolt some what lost that bolts to the away bar end, but I was not the cause I the actual "clunk"...I am thinking of taking the bar off to see if I hear anything still

Stock sub box rattles a bit in my speed. Just throwing it out there. I guess ive been pretty lucky, every couple years i get some clunking. Throw some fresh bushings in and im good again for a while.

could it be the spring turning / hiting each other during the cornering?

i forgot the name already... heard someone mention u can install tein "spring damper"?

something like sponge padding installed in between spring layers to avoid spring noise ?

I am also having this clunk problem, not so much while hitting bumps, but when turning or going up or down slope at a angle. just bought car today and have not really checked it out on a lift at work yet, but saying the "famous" protege clunk, what are replacements? These brakets everyone speaks of, I was wondering what brakets are they and where can you find them?

Thanks!

the famous clunk are racing beat rear sway bar problem

if you dont have racing beat sway bar, or doesnt clunk in the rear, then its not famous XD

if you convert ur protege rear suspension to msp style, then you might need it.

message evolv or log in facebook and post msg on autoxracing.com

he will email you back if he has enough interest.

but few weeks ago i was told only 4 or 5 ppl are interested atm. so this would take very long wait.

if you have clunk in the front end, i think it could be lots thing XD front sway bar bushing, bad strut mount or spring rubber rubbing are very likely the cause.

Sorry guys I need to update my profile. Lol just realized that. I do not own the 99 any more. I own a 3003.5 MSP now. I was wondering the fix to that now a days. :)

Start a thread looking for people interested in the clunk fix. If you can get the list up to 10 I will re-open up my AMM status and produce a batch.

i think we have roughly 8+_ already, but not sure if they are still here or not

its best if u start a GI thread.

for you guys that bought a energy suspension poly bushing and bracket for this rear sway bar fix does the bracket fit b/c i spoke to energy they said theres no direct fit for our msp's. i was thinking bending but idk how that's going to work out.
