I was driving last night, and noticed something about the 02.P5 Manual tranny and wanted to get your input.

The tranny was sort of cold, but nevertheless, here it goes.

Do our trannies like to be rough-housed?
I'm used to slow, gentle shifts (all my previous cars liked that) - yesterday that was not working at ALL. it wouldn't go into first at like 2 mph, and shifting in general was just weird

SO, i got pissed the f**ck off, and started putting some power behind the shifts -- i.e. quick, FORCEFULL shifts, and it shifted fine when i did that...

so the question to all you seasoned p5 owners... am i going to turn my tranny into ricotta cheese if I keep on doing this in cold weather, or do our tranny's like to be, well, umm... you know (uhm)

Giver!! the car doesn't go that fast anyway so givener just gives the elusion of speed, lol. it wont shift down to first at higher speeds (safety thing so u dont **** the car up) but it should go at 2-mph thats slow enough. ur driven the manual its all about the zoom zoom ;-) enjoy!

not in my p5, but in my last car that was manual i had the same problem.. do you find any small grinds going into any gears.. I was told it was my syncros that wasn't in the greatest shape.. Now it wasn't so much gearing up, but down gearing that i could feel the difference, and there was times i couldn't even get it into first until i came to a complete stop...

But a little tip that helps.. if you have trouble geting it into gear when accelorating, then shift at a higher RPM.. also helps with grinding gears if that ever occurs..

Replace the fluid!!!!! Make sure you have the proper wieght and also use a synthetic. That should clear it up if it is just a hard shifting problem. If it is grinding well then you are looking at a rebuild.

Even at very low speed, mine still doesn't want to go into first sometimes. Mine goes in if you're patient and keep pushing it gently.
