another HID installation thread

I have a plain jane 2002 Protege. What size HIDs do I need? I ask, because the ones that were sent to me are H4. This thread says Proteges take H7. Just want to make sure.

Has anyone installed them? The link above doesn't look very friendly to me. I am really not that handy or have many tools, unfortunately, but every place I've been to wants to charge me $100 for installation. Shall I pay it, or is it easy enough to do it myself? About how long does it take? Realistic & non-smart-ass answers, please!

Does anyone know a place in the DC area - or even Baltimore - that installs for less than $100? Any Protege brother/sister in the area that wants to help out a Protege brother? (help)

Thanks!

Protege5 takes the H7 - regular Protege takes an H4. so, you should have the right kit.

installation is pretty simple. if you can change your headlight bulb, you can install the hids. hardest part will be finding a decent spot for the ballast. you can use this to figure out the wiring...

right in the middle is the wiring connector for an H4 bulb. the only difference you will find on the protege is that the wire labeled "Ground" above is actually your "Positive". the protege uses a ground switch circuit. so where it says "High" and "Low", you want the low beam wire to coinnect to your ground in the kit.

hope that makes sense.

Thanks. I think it'll make more sense when I look at the kit AND under the hood AND this diagram at the same time.

I purchased the HID kit with the lo & hi HID beams. Would what you said still apply?

BTW, I get props from that lip you sold me. It looks great after the paint job.

i would say "it depends" on the how the kit is configured. that diagram above should help out. just keep in mind the power / ground wire isn't what would be expected.
