Another Delay

My dealer just received a fax from MNOA. I don't have a copy of it, but I might be able to get one later. I'm sure what I'm about to post can be confirmed with other dealers.

Apparently, much like the cold-air fuel cut problem, it was discovered when preparing the cars for shipment that the new, redesigned intake pipe was once again not working properly. I didn't quite get if they were "breaking" again, I think he said they were leaking or not sealed properly.

The fix? Make another batch of pipes (I don't know if they will be redesigned again or if they'll just change materials) and install them. Problem is, this is going to take up to another month. It was mentioned that these parts would be manufactured in Japan and shipped to North America.

I of course expressed my displeasure and asked if there will be a rebate because of the delay. My dealer is sympathetic but didn't think so. Believe me, the dealers are just as frustrated as we are (maybe more so.) My dealer recently went from carrying Mazda, Isuzu and Subaru to just Mazda. And they don't even have and Mazda 6s yet! If you want to buy a Protege, MPV or Tribute, they've got a bunch (and a couple Millenias.) This time of year is already slow for dealers, and if they don't have any cars to sell, well, it's more than a little frustrating, I'm sure.

That doesn't surprize me, right now I would almost welcome a delay till about march, then I could drive the tribute through the winter and pick up the MSP in the spring.

shipping it in march would be fine with me also....rather than get it and subject it to the salt and crap....what I am very happy with is mazda quality control and not letting it ship with issues...if it was a FORD it would have been shipped and recalled twice already.

So mazda if you read this drivel...keep up the good work on delivering a qaulity product and march/ april is fine with me

Hey..
This isn't good news for me...I've been car-less for over 3 weeks now, and i'm beginning to hate it. The first couple of weeks when i took public transit was fine. Knowing that i would have a brand new car within a few weeks or so... But if the delay is until March, i will seriously be thinking about getting another car! By then, Toronto Auto Show would be finished and i could choose something else...

Let's just hope that this whole delay thing isn't true...
I want my MSP by the end of the year the latest!:(

Btw, what about the people from the thread ' i got a phone call' saying that they might be expecting their car in on friday?

hmmmm, can anyone else confirm this. Not doubting anyone, but, after all of the rumours, I just like to hear of at least a few people getting the same phone call before I believe it.

If this is true.....this sucks. If the car comes out in Feb/or march, I won't be able to sell my car for what I want. Right now is almost too late, but I can get rid of it as along as the weather here stays the way it is. But, come mid Dec....forget it, I'll never get anyone to buy the mp3 because there will be 5 feet of snow everywhere. Who wants to test drive a mp3 in that?

Shiiit.

if my dealer would give me a loaner car until my msp gets here, i wouldnt care. but i just sold my mx6, and am borrowing a parent's car until i get mine so a spring release is hard to swallow.......

I had the same report from my dealer. The last information (before today's) was that they were expecting at least one orange MSP as early as today but no later than the end of next week. It also fits with the reports that all the cars were supposed to be shipped by the end of this month. It sounds like everything was go until some red flags went up when they were loading cars. As I said, I might be able to get a copy of the fax.

hey listen, nowhere did he say anything about march. i dont know where all you are picking that up from, digi just said he could wait till march.

Are they bringing these design engineers in on the short bus or something? Seriously, how difficult is it to manufacture a piece of ducting? Argh, I almost don't want to call my dealer to have him tell me it's going to be another month or two. I think I'll go drink myself into a stupor...

I spoke with my contact at Mazda Canada today, and they haven't heard of any other delays, not to say that they won't get the news tomorrow, we are always a little behind here. They are still planning on a Dec. 15th date unless they hear otherwise.

remember that brochure/flyer that most of us got of the MSP?.
On the bottom of that brochure/flyer in fine print it says October avaliable. Could this mean, that we could actually ask for a loaner? I mean, some of us were expecting are car at this time, heck even back in september...

I asked my dealer today, and they haven't heard anything....but then again, they don't usually hear anything until I tell them after reading it here.....ha ha

same here. it seems funny how the board members know more about what's going on.

That is because the board members want the cars and are pursueing them. The dealers on the other had, don't really care, because they are getting so few of them that it doesn't really matter to them.

lets talk about this loaner issue......anyone think we have a fair case? or a chance in hell of getting one?

:)

I won't say it can't happen, but your chances are slim to none. What happens if they loan you a car for a month then you decide you don't want the MSP when it finally shows? They can't make you buy the car, and they can't charge you for the rental.

I'd say those of us who do not need an MSP right away (ie, we didn't sell our old car, our lease isn't up, etc.) might have some bargaining power because of the delay, especially if you live in an area that gets snow. First of all, December is the worst month for car sales so less people will be looking at MSPs to begin with. Second, if there is bad weather or snow, less people are going to seriously consider a sport compact with big wheels and low profile tires. If they really want to sell the car, maybe they'll give you a set of snows or a few hundred bucks off. If this was the middle of summer, I would expect absolutely no discounts.

I just talked to the manager at my dealer this morning. There was a conference call yesterday and the latest news on the Mazdaspeed Proteges is not good. They said they could be delivered by the end of this month, but if not, they would not be in until January sometime. I don't know if this applies to all U.S. dealers, or just the east coast.

I've been wondering about this delay thing now that 6 people up here have their cars now. Does this mean that their cars have some sort of defective part? Or does it mean that they are some of the only few fixed? If they are fixed, then I guess they don't need to redesign anything, and maybe only waiting for more parts again.

Hmmmm,Guess we'll never know.
