Angel Eyes on a P5

Radio Shack in the states sells 3.5v LEDs and you would need a 1/2 watt 5% 220 oHm resistor to power the leds with a 9v battery. Make sure to put the resistor on the positive wire from the LED (the longer wire). oh and here is the formula just incase you dont get the led.

Ohms = ( V.bat - V.led ) / Amp.led.
V.bat = voltage of battery, V.led = voltage of LED, Amp.led = Amp of LED (should be on the back of the package)

Well I have a whole thing drawn out but I don't have a scanner to show you guys what I am talking about. The distance the light will travel is negliable. Plus I am talking about using 8 LEDS which mean that will be 2 LEDs per angel eye or one for each rod. I am very familiar with optics and prisims and such as I work with glass as a hobby/side business. The cuts can be varied but I do agree that too many cuts will make them very dim because all of the light will be escaping. I have been looking at a better quality FIBER OPTIC cord instead of the hexagon curtain rods. These would still need to have the slits cut into the back but are smaller in diameter compared to the curtain rods and are easier to work with once heated and molded. I found this fiber optic cord at a lighting supply that I go to to make my lamps and lights and such. Not sure who makes it. We tried it in the store with one of those little led keychains and were able to pass the light with acceptable brightness through a 10 foot piece of cord( It didn't have slices on the back so the light went straight through but was still bright enough) Actually been trying to come up with some new Halogen or track light fixtures using these angel eye principles. The possiblities are really limitless with this type of work because for our lights it is completely custom so no plug and play kits. Oh well to each their own. Post pics when you are done or your progress.
 
I was actually thinking of how the angel eyes would work with the reflector and i have found a pretty large flaw. If you use the angel eyes as your DRL then it is quite possible that the light from the angel eyes will be reflected by the reflector housing making the eyes alot less noticable. When you do it try to get the eyes to circle beyond the reflector if possible. I will take a look at my headlights tonight and see if i think of anything else. Good idea with the circle rod, i think it would be alot better then the one i am using.

Well since I still have my car and mazda is saying that they have fixed it I am rethinking the whole angel eyes idea. I am cleaning out my garage this weekend cause right now it is slammed full of sh@t. really need to get organized, first project is doing the suspension on my roommates accord and then thinking of doing the angel eyes. I have been experimenting with different techniques and ideas and the round rods are definately the way to go. Much crisper looking. The distance that the light travels too is pretty negliable. I tried a few distance and really didn't notice too much dimming. Also agree on the reflector theory. I think it would also look a little messed up with the lights actually on because they would be shining through the angel eyes. I examined the lights pretty carefully and it looks like there is more than enough room around the reflectors to run them. Plus once I paint the housings black they will show up alot better. I tested it out on different colored backgrounds and the darker the background the brighter it appears. Also been trying to decide the exact configuration. One is very similar to the BMW's with basically two circles one for high and one for low. the other is one for the low and then a small ring around the turn signal driving light. One question I had was to see if that light could be turned into just a turn signal meaning that it doesn't light up when you have just your parking lights on, just the angel eyes would. What do you guys think???? Can't decide which would look better but I am leaning toward the high and low setup. I had also thought about making completely custom lights and adding in a projector somewhere. The problem with that is I just wouldn't know where to start. For now I will just stick with the simple mods. Also found that drilling a hole in the end of the rod that the led can be inserted into works the best for light distribution. My plan on that is to drill a hole in the headlight housing and slide the rod though that hole. Silcon everything so it is sealed and then cut the rod alsmost flush and drill the hole in it. This way if there is any problem with the LED you don't have to open up your headlights to get to them. Have some thoughts for some taillight mods too but will save those for another thread.
 
Dude THANKS for this link. Those things are bad as hell. One question though? how do you get them in there since the headlight fixture is sealed
 
yOU HAVE TO USE A HEAT GUN OR STICK THEM IN THE OVEN AND HEAT THEM UP AND THEM JUST SEPERATE THE HOUSING. tHE TRICKY PART IS RESEALING IT SO THAT YOU DON'T GET VAPORS AND FOG WHEN IT RAINS. oh damn sorry for the caps but at work and doing multiple things. I will be doing this mod within the next couple of weeks and will post a how to. who knows if they go well and people like them I may develop some kits for sale.

If you can give very detailed temp's and how long to put it in. E-mail me after you make this mod. They are going to look bad as hell
 
the other day i was in autozone and i saw something that was called accent led's. lol, it is a ghetto little kit that lets you put 3 led's somewhere on your car to have a little bling bling. pretty nasty to put in your fenderwells like one of the pics on the package suggests but it would prolly work great for something like this.

Arkos P5. I have done some tests with different designs and such and have found that the straight cuts look the best when lite. The sanded just comes out kind of fuzzy and not very bright.

Love My Pro You can heat the housings for about 10 minutes on about 350. I prefer to do it with a heat gun though. You basically just want to heat them enough to loosen the glue. If you use the oven method keep a close eye on them. I don't want you destroying a headlight or anything.

Last, JR tek you doing this mod too. Have you decided on a LED yet. That is basically my last part to buy.
