And so it begins...

Well, today can be marked as the first day of the rest of my car's life. After realizing how much extra money I have in my bank account after my fiancee broke up with me and the amount I'm making from the military, I decided that it's time to start treating myself to nice things. That being said, I got out class today and logged on to PG and purchased the package deal PG turbo inlet+SRI, Forge BPV and the AWR Rear motor mount.

I can't even begin to tell you all how excited I am to get this stuff installed! After this, I'm probably going to get the Cobb AP, sway bars, strut tower brace, upgraded brakes, catback system and the rebuilt KO4. Hopefully all these new toys won't get me in trouble with the(five-0) :D

Ken, I love your site and you will definitely be seeing 100% of my business!!!

Good luck! And... you know... not to tempt you into hemorrhaging more cash but... (cheers)... grab a new intercooler, downpipe or test pipe, some colder sparkplugs, an upgraded ignition system, short throw shifter, shiny new fuel pump, some springs to lower your car, some slick rims... oh and grab an h2o/meth injection kit so I can hear from someone about it before I buy one!!

Seriously though have fun with whatever you get, it sure is addicting!

Oh yeah, I had forgotten to mention a new intercooler. That's up there as well. Might as well get the new piping for that too... haha.

I already have a set of the step colder plugs, though. Definitely made things a lot smoother! :D

thats a nice setup to start out with. but dammit, i was just about to post my forge up FS real cheap too.

UPDATE!!!!

Got my Forge BPV and PG inlet pipe installed today. No real issues there. The pipe was a bit of a tight fit but the Forge was so easy. I'm running the blue spring with no shims but I may change it. It's definitely not what I expected though. The sound it makes when it blows off is definitely a whistle, and not the clanging sword sound you all describe. I will say that immediately following the sound that it makes, I hear a somewhat odd "chuff" sound. Maybe a shim in the BPV would help that? Shims go under the spring, right? Or do they go on top?

I still have my stock airbox though so I know that my pipe is trying to suck all the air that it can through it. Poor thing... :(

Overall, I really like it! I can't wait to get my SRI and motor mount installed! Thanks Ken!!!! :D

Now, for the next question.....Should I get the Cobb AP or a new catback system? I'm split between Corksport and Magnaflow but leaning towards Corksport. What do you all think?

It sounds like you should be running a yellow spring with a shim or two instead of the blue. I don't think the spring is allowing the valve to fully open for the amount of boost you're running. That's why you're hearing a low whistle instead of a sword clang. The shims go in first, and the spring goes on top.

As for 'what's next'... If you have the patience, get the Cobb AP. It will take some patience trying out different maps and whatnot. (Not too hard though.) All in all, it will make every air/fuel mod you get from now on perform much better.

If you do decide to go exhaust, I would recommend the Corksport if you have the extra money. If you're looking to stretch the limits of "Stage2" you will want to be working with a 3" exhaust. Have you thought of a test pipe?

I don't know. I'm really gunshy of anything that'll mess with the emissions due to smoking turbos and what not... :(

I'll go swap the spring out now :p

Alright all switched and it sounds a little louder but still no clanging sword sound. Didn't they say they were going to reengineer it to get rid of that sound?

PS, don't try and switch them when the engine's still hot. Even IF you have gloves on..... Ow.

That sound was basically their signature for the product. I don't think they would have changed it without making a new product all-together.

To tell you the truth, I would start with yellow and no shims and see how it feels. If it feels good, keep it that way. You know you've got too tight of a setup when it stutters or feels sluggish entering the next gear after a shift.

Test pipes do not cause turbos to smoke and catalytic converters do not keep them from smoking. It's a bad seal design inside some of these turbos (depending on revision). A test pipe is just about as much bang for the buck as there is. $120 will net you 15-20hp (conservatively), give you a better feel on the throttle, and will let your turbo spool up about 100-200 revs quicker. I greatly urge you to reconsider.

I think with a flashlight and the inlet pipe off you can see the raised lettering on the turbo to see what revision it is. Don't quote me on that, but I believe that is what I read in another thread on this forum.

first off congrats on treating yourself! it sounds like you're doing an awesome job of it too!

enjoy the goods man!

the stock inlet box in engineered to reduce if not eliminate some of that turbo noise goodness. so your still not getting the full effect sound wise.
an intake really helps it breathe, and will really let the forge ring out.

Yeah. I should have the intake on either today or tomorrow, depending on which day it comes in the mail...

Just ordered my Cobb AP. :D

I'm probably going to be ordering 100% of my stuff from PG. In fact.... I'd love to advertise for you if you have some sort of something or other I can put on my car, Ken! (window preferrably)

I also forgot to mention that I finally got a chance to install my AWR Rear motor mount this evening. Holy crap, what an improvement!!!!! Definitely took any and all sluggishness out of shifting, accelerating and the car definitely pulls a little harder since I've gotten some of that power back that I might've lost with that stock mount. The vibrations increased a bit at idle but it's nothing that I can't stand and it should be gone once I get my AP and adjust my idle. :)

Also, I will say that the install was a bit more difficult than I originally thought it would be. I checked out the "How-to" on swapping out the mount and those tabs were a pain to remove. I hammer and chiseled it since they were metal and I didn't have a grinding wheel or dremel. That was fun. Didn't take as long as I thought it would. I'm just glad I was able to get the car on a lift and a transmission lift so I wasn't laying down working on it. :p

Now, would I recommend this mod? Abso-freaking-lutely!!!! I cannot even begin to tell you how much I love my car now...

And yes, I gave it a name too... Jenna (as in Jenna Haze) :D
