Analog or directional?

When playing video games, do you prefer the directional pad or the analog stick?

I dislike the analog stick, but it seems more and more games are forcing you to use it.

The analog stick gives you more control when playing most games. I use a Gravis Xterminator to play Need For Speed. Using the standard digital cross is like using the arrow keys on the keyboard, why bother?

If you are playing an old video game like Mortal Kombat or something, I can see wanting the cross, but most new games require it because it gives you better control.
