I changed my oil last night with amsoil 10W-30. and a fram oil filter.....

i can tell a nice difference in the way the car is running... it seems more eager to rev higher and it runs smoother also... even though it is a little expensive but i technically dont have to change the oil until 25000 miles... just change the filter every 5000 miles or so... but i think i might not go a whole 25000 miles.. since i race and drive a lot of short distances....

just thought i would let you guys know..

Yup, have had AMSOIL in for a while now, and it definately seems to get quieter as I put more miles on the oil!! I used 3 quarts of 5-30 and 1 quart of 0-30 ~~ any reason you used the 40 weight??Dosen't Mazda call for 30 weight? Just wondering.

You might do a search on the oil filter topic. We had a large discussion about it a little while back. FRAM actually isn't something you'll want to keep using in the long run. Just a thought.

right now im running a mobil-1 filter...will be switching back to oem next change...and amsoil.

I'm currently using the overpriced, $12 Mobil 1 filter. I too will be switching back to an OEM filter next time I change it.
Quick question. I was told to change the filter every other oil change. Does that sound right? I thouhgt it did, because that's how we do it on our bikes, but I wasn't 100% sure.

Hey, can you pick up mazda filters anywhere other than the dealership? I'm not a big fan of my dealership, and go there as little as possible.

if you look in the manual...that is what it recommends....but hey....you are now running your NEW CLEAN oil through a dirty filter...or at best a used filter...no more than they cost....I change them EVER oil change....on ALL my stuff...my harly...both my Mazda's, my pickup...even my frickin riding lawnmower! lol

its CHEEP insurance.....so why not.

:D

I thought the samething about changing the filter. I was wondering if the filter needed to be changed ever time too. Even though I already know that you should always change the filter when you change the oil. So last week when I changed my oil I decided to take a look to see exactly how dirty the filter was.....Result.....Damn that thing is dirty. If you look at a new factory filter, then compare it to your filter with 3000 miles on it. You'll notice that the inner part of the used filter is really dark brown, nearing black. The new filter is still yellowish/orange.
