Am I The Only One That Thinks The P5 Is Kinda Quick?

I would have to agree with "painfully slow".

But horsepower/speed isn't the reason I bought my car.

I bought it for gas mileage/space/price for mileage and year. It was the correct financial decision for me to make at the time.

My g/f drives a G35... and I find that to be quick. "Fast" is an entirely different league imo. But everyone has their own opinions...

My next car will be a 350Z w/ a supercharger.

I miss having a fun rwd car (previous car was a 240sx w/ mods).

Best description yet!

except for the "body roll". it was very bad imo. also i have complained numerous time that it can't do a long sweeper. I just never thought it was the monster as others (to me) wish it is/was.

no traction when turning the wheel and even slightly getting on the gas in the wet.

everyone is forgetting the brakes.

with some sticky tires the P5 braked damned hard.

had the thing for just over 3 years. liked it when I had it but had waaay too many downfalls. The Legacy hasn't stalled once.

Was your P5 an auto? the only Protege stalling I've ever heard of is a VTA BOV on an MSP without the MAF recirculated, or an auto P5.

mine almost stalled once

i was just sitting still, and i see my rpm's go down almost to zero, and then come back up, but it never stalled, maybe just a little glitch, and i wasnt revving or anything, just sitting there

A/C with headlights, wipers, foglights, radio, subwoofer, and underdrive pulley and I had the rpms drop low sometimes.. only time my car has stalled was when it had a bad vaccuum leak (i.e. hose clamp on intake broke and the maf fell off :P

I revise my earlier statements.

I drove an MS3 yesterday. The P5 is slow!

.....Oh, wait, I forgot the MS3 is nearly $10,000 more than we paid for our P5 and has over 100 more HP! There I go, comparing vehicles from different catagories again! My bad. But the MS3 is the s***! :D

to be fair...I think it was the gas.

there is a Shell station that used to be a Texaco down here in Mukilteo. It sits right on the Speedway and has the indoor/outdoor carting right behind it. you locals should know where I am talking about. as soon as i stopped going there the rpms quit dropping when starting and it quit stalling.

go there again after several months and bam, right back to stalling. just took me a long time to figure it out. Never thought a Shell station would have bad gas constantly. Was getting gas from a shell in Bothell with no problems. I get turbo juice from the Chevron here now. every car and it's mom goes there so I think it keeps things clean.

either way...gas shouldn't be the reason for stalling unless it was home made. had everything done to the car...egr and ecu. never "fixed" the problem.

ZOOM ZOOM ZOOM.......YES ZOOM ZOOM.....ZOOM ZOOM!!!
Aight, lets face it.....not every car is a factory tail whipper when it comes to speed, I like mine overall because where areas it doesn't exactly have the balls that my CRX Si had, it compensates in other areas....like ummmm HANDLING!!! Never owned a car other than my P5 that handles quite as well! and lets face it.....WHY COMPLAIN ABOUT THE SPEED OF A CAR YOU GET TO TEST DRIVE BEFORE YOU BUY??? IF YOU REALLY DIDN'T LIKE IT... THEN WOULD HAVE BEEN THE TIME TO HAND THE KEYS BACK!!! OTHERWISE STFU AND DEAL WITH IT!!! sorry but someone had to say it! besides this is a diversified site for all mazda owners and then some so why waste time making stupid posts about the shortcommings of our vehicles? Always look at the bright side of life! Afterall.....we could be owning and posting on a DAEWOO site!!

ummm.....ok

^^ I didn't test drive my car before I bought it.. the truck I had before it (my first car) was an autotragic (was handed down to me from my uncle, in amazing condition and low mileage) and I didn't want to drive it during the test drive since the salesman was with me and I couldn't really drive stick. I just had the salesman drive it and take some corners with it and stuff :)

how much does the nubira weight? Is it more than or close to 2716 pounds? if so, yeah that would be a damn close race. Of course styling, overall quality feel, and definitely handling hands down the P5 would win :P

Daewoo... add a "V" between the "a" and the "e" and thats my name lol Dave Woo. Although I did read somewhere I think it was edmunds that the 5 speed Daewoo nubira 129 hp "D-Tec" motor is actually quick for it's class. It might be a close drag race between it and the P5 although the P5 would def beat it in the corners. I remember i read that the edmunds.com test crew got attacked by the civic and carolla community because they rated the daewoo nubira over the civic, carolla, cavilear lol. Thats gotta hurt the honda owners egos lol.

I think it's kinda quick.

As everyone else has stated, it isn't a Lambo. But, it's pretty darn quick. I have a 03 with a 5-speed, and I'll take a baseline vw or Sentra by 2 1/2 lengths. It'll hold it's own against other cars of the same size and price. Well worth my money!

my uncle just gave me a p5 for free, but i like it. this is why im new to this site. its peppy like someone said, but not fast.

P5's are slow, Peppy around town, quick enuff to sneak into traffic, but on the highway, i have to time passing people.
I think my v6 toyota pickup would give it a run for the money 0-60mph, and its too is a slug.

We bought the p5 because of its great factory handling, all wheel discs, decent factory stereo, and sexy good looks.

It definetely needs a turbo.

We test drove a new kia spectra5, rated @138hp, now that is a slug, and for $26K CAD out the door fully loaded, what a rip off.

So was the Kia Proteg......I mean Spectra5 slower than the P5? Were both AT or MT?

Car and Driver article. P5 FTW!....and I quote, "The Verdict: A sports car in station-wagon clothes."

"This Mazda, like the Proteg four-door on which it's based, is really fun in the twisties. Ride is taut, body roll is tightly controlled, the 50-series Dunlops respond crisply, and they bite (0.79 g). You can set up a happy understeer with light braking on the way into turns, or push in hard under power, then lift a bit when you need to tighten the line. The knee bone is connected to the thigh bone, with no wobbles and no excuses. Precise. Predictable. Press on!"

wow wow wow

the mp5 only does the skip pad in .79g??? thats really low, i have car and driver magazines, and thats the same as the new jeep wrangler?!?
