Am I crazy to let someone cut my fender lips?

Once upon a time a boy buys a Mazdaspeed 6 and he loves driving it with stock suspension. When it comes time to replace stock rubber, the boy buys 18x8, 48 offset wheels and mounts 225/45-18 Sumitomo HTR IIIs.

He loves driving his MS6 all throughout the mountains like a maniac and ignores the taunts of "4x4" and "Hey monster truck". All is well until he decides to try the Eibach Pro-Kit springs. Eibach tells him this will lower his ride 1.5" in front and 1.4" in the rear. His MS6 looks cool now that it is lower but his tires rub on the rear fender lips. They rub when he drives aggressively or has coach full of passengers.

Very sad he takes his car to the magic men at Pit Crew in the kingdom of San Gabriel, CA. The wizards at PC tell the boy that they could roll the fender lips but his paint/clear coat may peel. They recommend he subject his fender lips to cutting instead. They assure him that it will give better results than "rolling".

The boy is afraid of subjecting his fenders to cutting because it is a daily driver and not overly pampered and waxed etc. He fears the evils of rust or other mythical hazards.

How should the boy seek his "happily ever after"?
Should he replace his stock springs? Let the wizard cut his fender lips? Something else? What should he do? (dunno)

That's cool with the story. I had my rear fenders shaved on my old Protege5. But the paint started to peel as well and flake off. SO I had to have the whole rear quarter sections resealed, repainted and clear coated.

Either way, you run the risk of peeling paint.

this is very true

I would go to another place to get your fender rolled. A good shop will know how to roll them properly and you don't have to worry about paint flaking or peeling.

Don't cut them, just have them rolled. When you cut them you're exposing them to rust and to reduced structural integrity. Rolling them somewhat avoids both of those problems, but not 100%.

Rolling fenders is cake, seriously. Just rent a fender roller & use a heat gun. That way NO paint will crack.

lewl.

yeah, fender roller FT moffokeen W
tell dat boy to stay away from Xzibit and not "pimp" his ride

yo!! we heard you liked to cut your fenders. so we cut your fenders so you could cut some more fenders...
