is that how u spell it??? anyway... is it possible to have more then one and if so could that be an advantage if u have alot of electronics??

Absolutely you can use two. The problem lies in fitting them into the engine compartment. The only time I've ever done it was on a full-size Suburban, we fabricated a bracket to hold two. It also took us about 4 hours to get the right belt in place, since GM didn't make a "1996 Suburban 5.7 liter dual-alternator belt".

You'll probably want to keep them isolated from each other electrically as well, although I'm not sure what it would do if you didn't. Like for example, if you were using a lot of audio amplifiers, then leave the stock alt. on the stock battery, and put the second one to a different battery (or batteries) to power the audio system independently.

Bigger is better

you might also substitute an alternator that produces more amps. of output than the stock one. Again, fitment may be a challange. Typically, alternators on larger cars have higher outputs. Jim

2 Is a real b**** in the protege but I have seen it in several civics. Theres no room by are stock alternator but might be able to do it up top by the water pump.

I know at NOPI I have seen in the bass compitition special brackets made that have like 4 alternators. Even though they had a hole cut out of the hood for them to stick out.

You tend to looase about 5 whp per high output alternator, You'll probably loose at least 10 whp adding another.

Two questions first one is what is the stats on the stock protege alternator.

When looking for a better alternator what do you look for? One that puts out more amps?

70 amps stock, i think

Basicly for one that puts out the most amps at idle while drawing the least hp from the engine and full power amperage output.

My AC delco does about 120 amps at idle and 160 at full turn, TESTED.

our stock alternator has 80 watts (oops i originally put 85)

imo, the cheapest way to have a higher output would be to have the alternator re-wound.

or, you can get a direct replacement for a 130 amp for $210.00 at mr. alternator (contact tom coker at tom@mralternator.com)

but i guess it really depends on what you're gonna use it for.

i upgraded mine for my stereo system.
