Alternator pivot bolt stripped?

I replaced my alternator this week and just loosened the pivot bolt at the bottom to re-tension the belt cause it was squealing...and when I tigtened the pivot bolt up again it wouldn't go tight again..just kinda snug. I assume I stripped the bolt or threads on the case of the alternator itself. Any suggestions on what to do. I will order a new bolt from the dealer tomorrow but would threadlock work? I don't want to but a new alternator.

I believe that the bolt actually threads into the other side of the alternator bracket, not the alternator itself, so you may have to go buy another bracket.

might also be able to get a longer bolt and put a nut on the end? not sure.

also, as long as the alt bolt is kept from falling out, the push of the adjuster bolt might be enough to hold it in place.

Thanks for the advice boys. I tightened the tension bolt down as hard as I could and it was ok to drive around the block. I will try to track a longer pivot bolt so I can put a nut on the end.

Sadly as I was under the car I saw that my oil pan is rusting out and one of front tires has a badly cracked sidewall. Ugh.
