i have the alpine cva-1004. the only way to watch a video or play playstation is to step on the brake, release the e-brake, then engage the e-brake and release the foot brake, or something like that. is there any way around this? someone at circuit city said theres an adapter i could buy, but he didn't say where or how much. any help would be great. thanks.

you must have had in installed. there is a way to by pass the safety. They do that so you cant watch stuff while you are driving. that is illegal and they will fine you. but if you still want to do it. You hae to bypass hte safety. not sure on that pacticular model. I will see what I can figure out.

like parks said, it illegal for a video screen to be in view of the driver while the car is in motion. therefore it must be connected to the park brake.

actually i installed it myself. it wouldn't let me into the setup unless it was connected that way. it sux. i don't plan on watching videos while i drive. it's more for my fiance when we travel and stuff. it would be nice to see the screen when i have a cd in or when i'm playing mp3's. i have the audiovox avd 300 dvd player, by the way.

You might be able to find a way to ground out that safety. I'm not sure how you would...but try to take a look trough google. Although, here's an idea: grab a DVM (digital volt meter) and check the voltage of the e-brake wire when it's up and when it's down. If it acts as a 12V, remote type of wire, you should be able to tap into the remote wire that tells the stereo to turn on. beyond that, I'm not sure what else you could do. But a little googling could help.

The alpine screens use 2 triggers. It was a brake wire tap and a e-brake wire tap. Ones ground and the other +12. I can never remember whats what. A DMM will let you know that though. Either way all you have to do is wire a switch inplace of the ebrake wire tap.(any pos from radio shack that can handle 12 volts will do)

Lets pretend the e-brake is +12v:
Wire one sire of the switch to a 12 volt source and the other side to the alpine ebrake wire. Then simply, press the brake, flick the switch, and release the brake.

Again, use a DMM to determine what the ebrake wire is. If ground, just ground a wire to the switch instead of grabbing 12 volts.

hmmm, that sounds easy enough. i'll try that in a little while. thanks 1st mp3. the only other thing i could find was some sort of adapter thing that pacific accessory corporation sells for it. it's the pac tr-7. have any of you heard about it? if not, here's the address: http://www.pac-audio.com/index.asp what do you guys think about this? thanks.

well, i figured it out. get a switch, hook one end to ground and the other end to the e-brake wire from the alpine cva-1004. that's it. thanks for the help!! (2thumbs)

The best way to get the video on the cva 1004, is to connect the (yellow w\ blue stripe) wire to the foot brake, the other wire, ithink it is yellow w\ a black stripe, connect this wire to a switch and the other side of the switch connect it to ground. When you get in the car put youre foot on the brake, flip the switch twice, and the video safety is bypassed. The other way is to buy a part fromAAmp of america, i have used the piece in the past, and it works most of the time, sometimes it hangs up and wont do the switching. If you need the part number, let me know will get the info.
