Almost completed audio install... (56k go away)

It's been a while that I've been working on this, and minus a few problems everything is 90% done. All that is left is finishing a window/cooling for the amp, and a FG sub box for the jack area.

My system setup:

Memphis Belle-600 Amplifier (5ch)
- bridged F/R channels for 150 watts to each component
- running sub channel @ 1ohm for 400 watts

Rainbow Audio SLC 265 Kick component speakers

Image Dynamics IDQ 10 Dual2 V2 subwoofer

Wiring and connections from KnuKonceptz.com

I DID have a Phoenix Gold Titanium 500.4 amp ... but a faulty power supply blew that sucker last Friday so I have this extremely AMAZING Memphis amp that I recommend to all.

Impressions from the setup is fantastic. The Rainbow Audio components have tons of midbass, and are crystal clear. The subwoofer is a very musical sub designed for SQ. Now that I have 400 watts running to it (instead of 250) the sub has come into new life and this thing hits hard. I don't see the need for anything larger than this now. :D

Here are pictures of my install, and how I ran wires. VaBooms guide is great, and I used it quite a lot to do all this. Only difference is that my pictures show where I did most of my wire running, for those that are curious.

Right now the subwoofer is sitting in a custom-build MDF box w/.5cu/feet of airspace in it. This is temporary till I can get my FG box built and then I will post pictures of that once it is done, hopefully by summer.

I also used cascade engineering sound deadener and deflex pads behind each component, and that really helped bring out the midbass. My spacers were leaking like hell and this fixed it right up!

Questions and comments always welcome and encouraged! Here's pictures of everything and it should mostly be self explanatory. I might get around to labeling them eventually, but for now this is all I have time for.

I'll post finished pictures when I have it all done!

Many thanks goes to Poseur and others who have helped me for endless nights of turning me from a car stereo newbie to someone who can actually do this stuff. ;)

If you're in Madison, Matt @ The Radio Doctor is great and I highly recommend hitting him up for business. They've been great to me, and I just want to pass along his name.

Very nice! Not sure if I like the idea of the crossovers mounted on the outside of the door panel, but still, looks great!!

Well, i could only see 5 or 6 of the pics (my work thinks 56k is just fine...)

I noticed the lack of a grommet (plastic or rubber) for the main power wire going throught the firewall. Hard to tell in that pic, it may be plastic, but looks like metal.

otherwise, good job bro!

The components are amazing. FANTASTIC midbass and super clear highs. I am 110% happy with these and would recommend everyone to take a listen. They are a lot bigger in Europe than here in America, but hopefully Rainbow will become more familiar here in the coming years.

smitty: I tried my damndness to mount the crossovers somewhere hidden inside of the doors, but it just was not going to fit anywhere. :(

I am going to work on some sort of cover for the wires, make it look pretty and provide some protection for the crossover as well. Right now it's double sided tape, and a little less than perfect in the looks department, but right now function follows form and I can worry about that later. :)

go to home depot, buy a piece of clear acrillic "fake plexiglass" board. It wil never yellow, and it thin enouch to use here.
-Cut it to the shape of the door so it fills the larger gap between the luxury area and bottom of the handle.
-Using four peices of pipe to make the plate 'hover' screw the plate to the door. alternativly you can use the pipes near the top and a bar brace from inside the luxury box at the bottom. Wrap the outside of the cover in a rubber material, weatherstriping etc, preferably black to give it a nice clean border.

You now have showy durable covers for your crossover that wont really get in your way.

Just my idea.

That is a fantastic idea. I have a project for monday. Time to draw up plans!

It's hard to tell, but are you running your RCAs right next to your power wire as it comes into the trunk? If so, I thought that was a no-no as you could introduce noise (i.e. alternator whine) into your system. If it's not the power wire, just ignore me...it's late and I probably can't see straight.

Ben

I am running my RCA and Speaker wires on the right side of teh vehicle, and the power wire on the left side.

The only place that they come into contact with eachother is in the trunk area right as they have to cross into the amplifier.

I might work on a way to clean that up a little bit, but so far I haven't heard any noise in the stereo from it, so if it ain't broke ...
