Consumers Bill of Rights

Your Rights to Personalize Your Vehicle

ARTICLE ONE: You have the Right to buy high-quality, reliable aftermarket performance and specialty parts, accessories and styling options.

ARTICLE TWO: You have the Right to use high-quality aftermarket parts and know that your new car warranty claims will be honored. In fact, your vehicle dealer may not reject a warranty claim simply because an aftermarket product is present. A warranty denial under such circumstances may be proper only if an aftermarket part caused the failure being claimed.

ARTICLE THREE: You have the Right to install and use emissions-legal aftermarket performance parts without incurring hassles and onerous procedures during state vehicle emissions inspections.

ARTICLE FOUR: You have the Right to actively oppose any proposed (or existing) laws or regulations that will reduce your freedom to use aftermarket automotive parts and service or will curtail your ability to take part in the automotive hobbies of your choice.

ARTICLE FIVE: You have the Right to patronize independent retail stores and shops for vehicle parts and service. The U.S. aftermarket offers the world's finest selection of performance and specialty parts, accessories and styling options. These aftermarket products satisfy the most discriminating customers seeking personalized vehicles for today's lifestyle.

SILVER PAINT

I traded in my 2000 black Civic SiR in November to buy a 2003 P5. Driving the same HYW that i always do i have noticed in the last 3 months that i have actual paint chips in my hood. Nothing in the nose grill area just the hood. I can see black undercoat or primer or what ever they use.. On the sides of my car there is the odd spot as well. The chips only appear on the painted metal parts, i am assuming the bumpers are all plastic.

We are talking about ships the size of this symble at most *

It seems to me that mazda is a little thin with the paint as my civic never had chips the actally broke below the paints surface.

Is this normal? Has anyone else had this problem? Should i ask MAZDA to address this problem?

My question is if I have to worry about installing an aftermarket amp and headunit. The wiring through the car or to the battery won't void the warranty, yes? Thanks

Long Story short on Warranty's.

Don't modify your car and expect to have warranty service given without a major hassle. You may need to retain a lawyer. Dealerships usually have lawyers to handle petty claims, and they will defend themselves. The warranty which is given on our cars has even trivial things like Car Alarms and Stereo's considered as an alteration to the cars electrical system which may be determined to void the warranty.

Your best bet if you want to be covered by the dealership, is to talk to lots of people at the service counter. Get on a first name basis, any mod that you wish to do to your car, discuss with them first. In many cases within reason the dealership will agree to install your modification for standard labor charges. This in most cases will allow your cars warranty to remain intact. When in doubt, you can always call Mazda's Corporate line to ask. A certified letter sent to the dealership from your attorney may be a good idea, but only as a last resort.

I took my car down to the dealership the other night and one of the guys noticed my HKS exhaust. They didn't comment negatively towards it and were quick to say:

"If it doesn't cause the problem I see no problem in upkeep on the warranty."

I truely believe that much of the resistance you'll face will be dealer based. Thus, if you are planning on significant modifications I highly recommend getting in good with the dealer you'll be using.

A warranty rule I was told when I worked for a Mazda dealer here in Australia. Unless you can prove that the aftermarket product/modification caused the fault, claim it. If you can, negotiate with the customer. A fact later proven when the Mazda warranty inspector recommended that I use the ECU from a 1.5 Mazda Demieo in my 1.3.

life is all about relationships...you treat the dealer staff well, and discuss mods etc and be a regular customer of the dealer, even for a oil change and they will help you in most cases at least that is what I have found..

Now just to only go to them when you car is screwed, treat them like s*** and you get the absolute minimun help...not to say this is right but life is not always fair..

Oliver2k...Right on. Being in service can really suck..You know why, all day long, those guys deal with 90% pissed off people. They come in for only the problems. This does not excuse these guys and gals for being complete jerks, but realize, you attack them, chances are, they will respond the same. Knowing a lot of dealer personel, I know that when a customer comes in asking for help, vs demanding it, they usually will get it. Just food for though. Again, this does not mean all service guys are Angels, because they arent. Remember, not EVERYONE is out to get each of us.
Werd,
J

I'm in pretty good with my dealer, I give them excellent reviews and they know I drive a bit out of my way to go to them. Plus they're newer and don't have as much business.

Anyways, I plan on having them do my services, but I'm going to ask them about the mods.

I'd probably have them install them as well, that way they can object if they see anything wrong. It's all up to them. I plan on installing the Billet SRI when it's available and maybe an exhaust.

On all my past cars I've done my own installs, but I've also screwed a lot of stuff up.

I'll let them install it, that way I can have proof that it was installed professionally, and that there was no immediate cause for concern and that any further damage is most likely coincidental. To me it's worth paying the extra $20-30 an hour to have them do it.

Well I do all the work on all my cars myself like a real car guy most of the time, but when this damn hydraulic clutch needed adjusting, I had to take it to Mazda to get it serviced under warranty. To make a long story short, I got called into the managers office a few minutes after I dropped my car off at the service center and the warranty guy was in there. They told me my warranty was void cause of my kartboy since i was having tranny problems, as if the shitfter could possibly cause a hiccup in the clutch. Anyway, I walked to my car, pulled out a copy of the Magnuson Moss act that i had printed just in case something like this happened, put it on the guys desk and politely asked if he wanted to keep arguing with me. They got bumed all of a sudden and, clearly lying through their teeth, said they hadn't seen the law before and got me to go sit in the waiting room, where for some reason I was served free sodas and chips, and the warranty guy didn't go back to his cubicle until I had left. I felt prety damn good all in all. And I wasnt even rude or confrontational or anything. I just let them know that I wasnt just another stupid customer they could push around and they shut up quick.

If anyone wants to speak with someone who has actually taken on MNOA and a dealership feel free to PM me. I speak out of experience, not word-of-mouth.

Just Curious, but is the SiR a real genuine Honda model?
I thought I read somewhere that the SiR derived from fast boys merging Si and TypeR parts and making a new logo...

its too much is you ask me, I have seen hond'as with SiR, v-TEC and random Red R's all on one car and the nerve to leave the DX badge on it as well.... just sadd!!!!!!!

question on warranty

i have an injen cold air intake and i was thinking about eibach prokit drop springs and a hks bolt on exhaust. now will any of these void any part of the warranty? i go to the van nuys california galpin mazda dealership

I read this thread and then went to go talk to my local dealers.
One dealership was completely against modifications and were extremely anal about it.
The other dealership was more accepting of mods and initially told me anything goes (except for messing with the engine internals or chips). I talked to them today and they said that exhaust would definitely be okay, but the intake could cause problems regarding the warranty. Just ask your dealer (parts or service) and if they don't give you the answer you want go to another dealer. They will probably have different policies, some dealers are pretty cool about it, others are not.

should a control arm be covered under warrenty

simple question at 35 k they tell me mines bent and needs to be replaced but Ive been having this same problem since I got the car (gun)

Denied Warranty

Ok so i have 2 blown out speakers and my a/c switch (that controls the direction of the air) does not work. I take it to mazda, and they see i have a CAI and the guy says he wont touch my car. I call up Mazda NA they call the dealership (DELRAY MAZDA) and say since it is independently owned they cant do anything. I put in a formal complaint, but is that all i can do? There is not an abundance of mazda dealerships i can go to. Can i print out the law that i have the right to mod my car and take it to him? What if he still wont touch it. PLZ HELP!
